Job Interview.
    #3104295 - 09/07/04 04:45 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I'm not sure if any of you cats remeber, but awhile back I applied for a Managers postition at work, and I got a phone call today for a meeting tomorrow..That's cool, I've done ton's of interviews. But never for one this professional.

any tips, or advice? I'm kind of nervous. But I'm pretty confident that I can do the job.

the interviewer is a lady too. i find it's always easier to talk with the opposite sex in times such as this.

Dress is good as possible. If necessary, buy something new. Most importantly, show that you are very interested in the job, but don't hump the interviewer's leg. Make it look like you are considering the many facets of the new position.

This sounds crazy, but while you are talking, cross your legs. That's my ace in the bag trick.

An interview is one of the few times you can openly brag about youself. Make sure you give them reasons why your the best for the position, Make sure you get the message to them that you want the job.

the nutcrusher, or ankle to knee...which is better. Nutcrusher is more "professional" i guess.

I'm not combfortable with the nutcrusher...If I was to rock it, I'd have to do a 'rearrange' which isn't very professional.

I guess I'll have to dress up for work tomorrow, go to work, undress, and then redress in my uniform which is dressed up, undress, and re-dressup. Damn it's going to be alot of tie tying.

I got a job interview tommorow and I am quite nervous. But not so nervous that you get thos liquid shits, ya'know? My girlfriend brought over all these interview do's and don'ts sheets cause it's 5 years since I had to do an interview.
-Avoid slang
-don't slouch, lean slightly forward indicating interest.
-don't talk yourself out of the job, know what you are applying for so if they ask your expectations they meet the position.
- Dont talk negatively about your old job
-Know your goals in education and work.
-Don't be long winded but also don't use "yes and no" answers. Provide examples.
-SMILE
-Don't ask about salary until it is evident you are getting the position.

I also went over some questions that surprisingly stumped me pretty good, mostly because I have hard time telling somebody great things about me.
"Why should I hire you?"
"Tell me something great about yourself"
"what are you expecting to get from this position?"

That's all I can think of atm.

Okay, Thanks for the advice everybody. I'm sitting here 5:36am, enjoying some cereal, but noticing my place is kind of chilly. brr. The interview is at 10:30am. So I went and bought a new tie last night, I couldn't find a new shirt that fit well, so I'm just going to wear one I've already got.
I've been going over some stuff in my head for those damn questions...i hope you all have a great day, and when I get home I'll pretend you are interested in how it went and post about it....

au voir

Cool. Have fun. Well, i am still yet to fill out the application. BUT I know this lady and i was talking to her and she was asking if i needed a job or wanted to volenteer. For volenteering she brought up the humain society and i looked into that. But she knows the owner to this grocery store and he asks her for recomendations of people and she recommended me as a good worker and shit. I would really be doing petty stuff like cart pushing, bagging, cleaning, stocking, crap like that most likely but she said that he's really nice and is generous with raises and promotions and what not. And she said if she recommends me I will most likely get the job, and shes recommending me so yeah.

Good Luck! I just got back from mine 20 minutes ago. I think it went pretty well. I have to go and take a test and stuff and they talked about doing a criminal recored and credit check on me so that may be a good sign. I got interviewd by two people which was a little different too, but both were easy going.
*crosses fingers*

Well, It was done with many hours ago, but I've been busy as hell. Just got home. It went super good...She was talking like I already had the job alot, which is either to make me feel better, or her slipping up...I'm pretty sure I nailed it though, only one question stumped me for abit.
"What hypothetical occurance might happen that you could see yoruself using your problem solving skills and your open-mindness."
I was going to say well if some big shot wanted me to score blow for him, I'd do that. haha

But I just used a valet parking scenario. :P

So I guess i'll find out before this monday if I get it or not. If I do accept the job, I miss a two week job in which I'd be making $3000 approx. :frown:

The tough questions I got asked were " What is your weakness in your last job" This slipped me up because I wanted to just say my current weaknesses being that I didn't have the direct experience for my new job.
The second was "what is your old bosses biggest weakness?" I told them about how she would spontanously change the scheduled hours.

yea, changing scheduled hours sucks bad.
you come in and there's a note saying your schedule has been changed.
is that even legal, wtf.

I had 4 days planned to go camping, came in for my last day before my 'holiday' and my day's off were staggered.. work, day off, work, day off. It's just not right.

woa, this is damn old.
Um, well I didn't get the Evening Manager postion. They said I had too little managing experience, and in all honestly I told her it would of been a huge learning curve. I also told her i didn't like the hours...so whatever, I was happy I didnt get it.

a) my supervisor got it, so his job is available.
b) I would of missed out on two weeks of work at a different job. where I can make crazy money doing nothing. (i start monday)
