switch in perception of the masses will come out of necessity rather then choice.

I don't think you are aware of the power of our basic survival nature and human ignorance of cause and effect. Any switch that would happen would reverse, as it always seems to, as soon as the pressure was off.

Unconditional love is not always maximally beneficial to the self, and that's the problem.

I guess ultimately it comes down to the salvific transformation, and what the individual considers the self. For some it is the ego, for others, such as the Saints and Bodhisattvas it is everyone else.

If such a switch proved to be ultimately better for everyone, what would the survival incentive be to go back to the old ways? I think there is another part of us which transcends the animal-sub self in which we can choose to identify with.

Yeah I guess I just don't see an advantage to undergoing this salvific transformation if it won't allow me to maximally benefit myself.  I definitely support others becoming less self-serving by submerging their individuality into the Collective but IMO they are restricting their freedom and full potential by doing so.

Haha, I won't lie and say my self-interest isn't guiding me at times. I'm attempting to make such a transformation, and I suspect there will be some benefits to such submersion. Only time will. :yoda2:
