Hindu animal sacrifice
    #11519799 -

Every 5 years, thousands of animals are slaughtered to the Hindu God, Gadhimai.

Said one participant, "If we want anything, and we come here with an offering to the goddess, within five years all our dreams will be fulfilled."

Chandan Dev Chaudhary, a Hindu priest, said he was pleased with the festival's high turnout and insisted tradition had to be kept. "The goddess needs blood," he said. "Then that person can make his wishes come true."

What part of the psyche deduces that ritual sacrifice results in getting what one wants?

Is there any logic involved at all?

Come on, let's explore. I'm trying to figure out how many ants I need to kill for a Brand New Car!

Would being a pest exterminator count? Thousands at a time is no problem.

I'm more pissed off that all the animals being sacrificed for imaginary friends could have been used for my next burger.

Well, from another angle, we could explore why religious leaders perpetuate senseless activities.

Taint a person's soul and they've got nothing to defend themselves with?

Satisfy the urge for death to lower crime rates?

Ancient form of animal control?

I think they cart off the dead meat for processing, so if you live in India, burgers should be very cheap for the next few months. Burning all those animals sacrificed for imaginary friends sure would be dumb.

These sacrifices are based in primitive mans fear of death. He did not understand how nature operated and so created the gods and the sacrifices to appease them.

And were still fucking doing it but they don't remember why.:crazy2:

When is the next ritual? I am going there with a sackful of copies of 'The Secret'. I will show the silly, superstitious Hindus how we manifest dreams in The West. :yesnod:

They sacrificed what was most important, a life.  This was to prove they would be willing to do what ever it took to please the gods.  :jah:

Quote:

The sacrifice is bizarre to me, but if you eat the cow, no more milk or blood (nutrients and water). The cows there are suited for the land, and live off grass, which is of no use to humans. I would guess many of them feel cows are "sacred", but that doesn't answer they question of why it is so.

Perhaps the sense of fear at seeing these valuable domestic animals destroyed invokes a closer relationship between productivity and staying alive. Otherwise said, the leaders needed a way to invoke fear so they could more easily control the population and perhaps pacify some Gods.

When looking at dogma, slated as spiritual in some way, there's usually a practical side to the equation.
