Some confusion here.  Grains have TONS of nutrients.  What hey lack is a capacity to hold any real amount of moisture necessary for fruiting.

While yes, you CAN fruit like that it's a pretty big waste.  I've fruited a couple quart jars like that and got maybe 3 grams dry out of each.    Take those same jars and spawn to bulk and you're talking more like 3 ounces.

I'd highly suggest spawning that big boy to a bulk sub.  Pick up a brick of coco coir at your local pet store - or loot the neighbors horse field for manure.

I'm with everyone else here, just spoon it out and spawn to some nicely pasteurized coir or straw.  You could do it out of the jar but your output would be far less that way and a waste of some fine looking substrate.

That myc is too awesome to waste, give it the home it deserves and it will probably repay you tenfold.

I'd break the cheap assed pickel jar WAY before I would take a sppon to it. You guy's talk about giving the "poor" mycelium a good home and then say some sshit like take a spoon to it. Now thats "poor" and now holy fucking blue mycelium

I wouldn't take a spoon or any other utensil for that matter to break it up. I would suggest to bang it against an aired tire(or something along the line of that. Cloth, carpet, etc. Pretty much break it up) and then spawn to tray. I think if you bang it long enough then it will break up. Then again you don't know what it is. So if your banging a BRF cake then it can't be done. GL on your progress.

Like previously stated... Don't fruit directly from the grains.


You can prepare substrate of choice by steam pasteurization at roughly 160F for 1 hour. After your substrate is prepared you can simply add it to your shaken grain jar and continue to shake until the jar is at desired capacity and the substrate is dispersed throughout the jar.

Let colonize and consolidate and fruit normally in any terrarium you wish. I prefer a shotgun or greenhouse for small grows like jar culture.

Also, if you would like to avoid side pinning like previously stated, a trash bag wrapped around the jar will aid you.

You guys don't like to experiment? What the fuck is wrong with throwing ideas out???? The peroxide might be unnessisary, i don't know I've never fruited out of a jar before but what's wrong with casing the top? I think it would be cool. and as far as the nutrients in the casing goes i hear gains don't have enough nutrients to fruit (which i guess is bad info, i don't know who to believe), thus the nutrient casing. "But Beelze that would be a hot bed for contamination." I guess you should make sure that doesn't happen... It's called working in front of a hot oven or a flow hood. And if in the end I'm just crazy and it's a horrible stupid idea don't just use the slap the face icon like you know what the fuck your talking about. Explain why my idea is so stupid it should never be uttered on this forum ever again and just to make sure it's never said again we'll get that dude from the mummy to safe guard us from such a stupid idea. jefferson thought of 1000 ways not to make a lightbulb, impressive. I bet you he found some other cool shit out.
