Pereskiopsis Help Needed!

What the F is wrong with my Pereskiopsis.... I got all three of these at the same time, same vendor, and they were the same exact height. Now one of them has gotten twice as tall/thick as the other two.... And the other two appear to have little holes with red around the edges on their leaves. The two smaller ones barely even appear to be growing. Also they are all in the same spot, right next to each other. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

The holes and papery like filament in the leaves could be explained by possibly aphids taking some bites (they leave a thin, paperlike layer) or water drops on the leaves in the searing heat.

Aside from the very minor damage, I see nothing wrong with them. I suggest you keep their soil constantly moist in summer, they will grow much faster. Is it possible that the one that is bigger was getting more water then the others? Pereskiopsis LOVES water, they can even be grown hydroponically.

Even if the original leaf damage was pest related, it must not be anything too terrible because the other plant looks very healthy. I would check for pests and just water them more often, soil looks pretty dry.

If I had to guess it would be a bug problem, and the plant is putting its resources to heal and not grow and prosper.

I don't know why only two of them have been attacked.

Also, when my Pere. get red like that on the end like that, they want more water.

Thats what my experiance with them has taught me.
Pretty much what Meth said. Keep the soil wet, Its almost impossible to drown them.

I had a similar problem with some I had traded for, the culprit turned out to be spider mites. I'm not saying that is your problem but it wouldn't hurt to get a magnifying glass and check the affected leaves, just in case.

Same here. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my pereskiopsis and it looked just like the top one. I noticed some small webs on it one day and checking out the underside of the leaves revealed a bunch of mites.

No, the redness in Lophs is usually due to someone not realizing they are a shade plant.  It's called sunburn.

That's funny that everyone says that... Because where Lophs can tolerate shade, they are actually defined as a "Partial Shade/Full Sun" plant. Which means that they can tolerate either partial shade OR full sun. All cacti conduct photosynthesis in a different way, that can tolerate full sun.... There are plenty of wild Lophs that are growing all over the western United States that are growing perfectly fine, in full sun.

that is true. lophs will wrinke and turn red when in full sun. but will tolerate it soon after this. the key is to just let them be. they are a very adaptable desert species  IMO.

on the other hand baby lophs are very sensitive to extreme heat and full sun. i should know. this where fluorescents come in handy to give them a good start. god knows how they do it in nature but they survive. just my outlook on the situation.

Everyone says that because it's true.  If you've got a definition that states "Partial Shade/Full Sun," post it.  You can also post some photos of Peyote growing in full sun throughout the day if you can find them.  In the meantime have an education:

The Peyote Way Church of God.

And that's just a few that came up in a Google search.  No one, and I mean NO ONE, that grows Cactus grows Peyote in full sun.  Native Americans don't grow it that way, cactus growers don't grow it that way and hobbyists who know what they're talking about don't grow it that way.  If you sunburn your plant, you are injuring it.  It's called phototoxicity.  What kind of idiot would want to do that?

In sum, you don't know what you're talking about and giving bad advice.  Don't do that.

Wow, I didn't ask to get flamed on my own thread... People are so hostile here sometimes... Take a fucking chill pill Mr. Mushrooms... Cant you be courteous and give decent advice and argue it like an intellectual instead of someone who is simply looking to make themself feel better than someone else?... I was simply making a SUGGESTION considering there are people out there (like my good friend ferrel_human) that have grown Peyote in full sun, and like he said: IT ADAPTS TO IT, as most plants will.. Anyway, I don't have mine under a shade cloth, but they only get about 2 hours of direct sunlight a day and they are doing just fine.. So before you comment on how everything is so CONCRETE because all of your sites say it is, realize that there are plenty that have done it, and the Lophs do fine...
