Pereskiopsis???(ID PLEASE)
    #3029791 - 08/20/04 08:37 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Ok I picked up this little pot of what I PRAY is perikiopsis, it has the fat little leaves , and on the bottom of some leaves its a bit red-ish, its smooth, and its sprouting out of the pot in multipule spots.

Anyone have any good pics???

Do I have the real deal??

I does look alot like this !

One of UNA's lovely pics, and that redish look is good to see , but this is only a top shot.

This cacti was all by itself at the nursery, and for 4.99 why not :smirk:
I was only there for soil at first.

Anyone have underside pics?? pics of the stalk etc???

Also, you know how once you know what a poppy looks like, you would have to be a retard to boil up say.... orientale(with that damn fuzzy crown on top)

Well is the same true for Pereskiopsis?, i.e. if mine looks real close is it a Pereskiopsis??, what looks LIKE Pereskiopsis?

Crossing my fingers

Will all the Pereskiopsis plants make cacti grow really fast.

Do I have to use Pereskiopsis SPATHULATA???, I am SURE I have a Pereskiopsis , but I think it might not be the SPATHULATA.

But its hard to tell , and the only real difference is the pointy leaves in Una's pics, but then again certain leaves on the root bound cacti are kinda pointy.

Does it have spines? If not it's not pereskiopsis but some kind of succulent (Jade perhaps....). Pereskiopsis has small barbed spines that will stick into your skin and cause irritation (much like Opuntia).

All species of Pereskio psis can be used, it's not limited to just P. spathulata.

Doesn't sound like pereskiopsis to me if it's sprouting out of the pot in multiple spots.

Well my hopes have been crushed, but thanks for being honest UNA.

I am going to clone the parts that broke off, return the plant, get my money back ,and maybe pick up the other "suspect".

Fucking Jade.

Your chances of finding pereskiopsis in garden centres is extremely slim. You'd be far better off buying online from mushmush (if Una delivers to the states) or ebay.

Good luck!

Indeed the plant has no other uses except doing seedling grafts on. The plants themselves have little decorative value and are very unpleasant to touch because of the small spines. You will probably not find it in a garden center.

MushMush doesn;t ship to the states. There are all kinds of phytosanitary and CITES regulations making it impossible for us to ship plants outside of the EU. Any serious cactus grower should be able to supply you with these plants but don't expect to just bump into them....that will not happen :frown:

I just happen to have some small pereskiopsis plants I could be persuaded to part with. I'm in the states so no problem with shipping.
