Too many seedlings in small container

While planting some lophophora's I decided to plant the "variety seed mix"
I didn't want to take the time to plant every seed and make up more containers, so i just sprinkled 50+ seeds overtop of the soil in 2 3" cube pots.
The germination is taking off, and the seeds are sprouting like mad, and the surface of the soil is soon going to be dense with seedlings.
What do i do?
Should i thin, or transplant?
How soon can i transplant into individual containers, and how do i do that?

You might have no choice but to transplant some of the seedlings to other containers, that or thin out and throw away.
I would use a fine knife, knitting needle or something similar to stick in the soil next to the seedling and carefully pry the fine roots from the soil. Be extremely careful not to damage the roots. To re-plant, stick your prying tool into the soil and twist to make a hole deep enough for the seedling, place seedling in hole and push the soil around the base with your tool and then water from the base to make sure the roots are bedded well.

Very good, thank you for the explanation Karode,
I have a couple other questions related to this,
The seedmix contained the following varieties:
"astrophytum, Cereus, Golden Barrel, Hedgehogs, Mammillarias, Opuntias, Ferocacti, Parodia, Gymnocalycuim, Trichocerus, Saguaro, Organ Pipe varieties + more."
Obviously some seedlings are bigger than others.
Would it be recommended to replant these seedlings one to a small clay pot, or say... 10 to a 3" cube?
How soon would transplanting be recommended?

You could plant them one to a pot if you wish but it would probably be best to have several of the same species to a pot until they get larger. You can transplant them when you think they are large enough to handle safely or wait until the pot is overcrowded, it might be hard to separate the seedlings at this stage without damaging the roots a bit.

I recently did the same thing with one of those "variety packs", the seedlings are hardy and will transplant well, just use a small knife to get far enough under them so that you dont ruin the roots.
I did this and it put some of the seedlings in shock for a week or two but they are fine now, growing like crazy.

Mycohunter:
Did you plant them individually, or in groups?
+ also how long did you wait before you transplanted?

Yeah. They'll be fine. I'd wait to separate them until you have reduced humidity.

Thank you so much.
Ill post pics next time i take the bags off.

In my experience, transplanting is difficult when they're so young. When I transplanted some 1-2 month old hardened seedlings, they stalled like mad, likely because I knocked off the root system. With cacti, their relatively low nutritional requirements means you have a lot of leeway with root space before truly detrimental effects begin. That's why you often see cacti drastically underpotted. If I was to do it over, I'd probably wait a year to transplant, and wet the soil before doing it, so I could take seedlings out with a clump of their original soil, rather than worrying about damaging their fibrous root systems.
