updated 31.aug: upd pics: salvia, tobacco, san pedro posts. Now the salvia has outgrown its jar. is it time to stop using jars or should I build a little greenhouse or something for it? everything else is doing ok here are some other seedlings, what you see is rock dagga, tomatoes, anis, wormwood and wild strawberries. Thanks openmindet

Well I took the jar off the salvia seedling and it growing fast I have had some heat issues with my cannabis plants but working on it.
But something concerns me, my san pedro seedlings is growing fine and all but the surface the perlitte looks like it has turned green. is this normal?
Of course my free camera from time magazine is now broken so I cant take any pics for a while but I have orderet a celluar phone with camera so I will update this thread soon enough.

The green stuff are algae, and it is a common problem in starting cactus seedlings. I believe it's caused by standing water.
What I usually do when I have algae is to flush the soil with clean water, here's how:
take the pot with seedlings to the sink or someplace where the water can drain off, then carefully pour some lukewarm water on top, and let the soil drain. the water coming out of a pot with algae usually is brown and smells bad. Repeat until the draining water turns clear and stops smelling.
This will not get rid of the algae, but it will make it harder for them to take over the pot, and as long as they don't take over and start choking the seedlings, they are fairly harmless. Besides, I feel better knowing that my seedlings are standing in clean water.

thanks for clearing that up , I will try this method out
well I finnaly gotmyself a camera, 2 megapixels and everything so now im gonna take budshots tomorrow and other pics as well
I found out that what I thought to be a Rock Dagga (since i planted rock dagga seeds in the pot) actually was a cannabis plant. I have no idea how that seed got into that pot. strange thing.

you got a bitchin garden. so many wicked plants, although i really dont liek tomato plants. think its the smell. as for you algea. thats what you get for using perlite. i HATE that crap, its everywhere it seems. cant hardly buy a dirt without it. perlite is the enemy, yar it sucks nuts. anyway i find it grows much better wehn i have potting/topsoil and perlite in it. now for cacti i only use a clay type soil thats in the yard and crushed rock. it is amazingly similar to the type of dirt peyote is in wild (texture, water absorbtion wise). it works great and my cacti have never been so happy. perlite= algea starter in my experience. especially the commercial dirts that oten already have it growing in it. i think this should almost be in the garden faq. it has very good descritions of you plants growing conditions. that would sure help a lot of people out if jsut starting theres out...im looking at this thread when i get seeds of soem of the species.

That sucks . I'm going to cut my plant back a bit for winter so I'll have a load more cuttings soon. So if that one dies just let me know, I'll send another out.

Well, Im not going to update this thread for some time because i have other threads on another board + i want to document some fungi growlogs here on shroomery. the calea died. your a real great guy openminded im gettin seeds to calea as well soon, i will try to see if i can get them up. im also starting on caapi, peyote, p. viridis, some more daturas and many others, pics will of course come now and then, i have btw had outstanding bud growth on my marijuana plants wich i posted pics of in a another thread. real insane stuff. here is a series of pics 1) just some opium seedlings , these will prolly die off, i just threwed them into a pot for no reason, in the right pot there is two datura (i dont remember wich ones these was right now). the empty pot has more datura seeds , Metel i think 2) a coffea arabica seedling, growing well 3) rock dagga 4) salvia, its starting to get big now succsess, will as soon as possible take cuttings., 1) Rivea (that climbs on the bamboo stick) is also growing fine, fun to have, will give this specie more attention later in a more serious attempt. 2 & 3) Heimia , growing fine, will also try a better setup for this specie later 4) bundle flower 1 & 2)bundle flower 3) tomatoes and anis 4) N. rustica (the pots in front) and N. tabacum in the back 1) N. rustica (the pots in front) and N. tabacum in the back 2) N, glauca - these have been transplanted to seperate pots today. it has started to catch up now 3) tabasco - not too healthy, working on it 4) from left to right, opium, datura and peyote. 1 &2) opium , non serious grow attempt (i grow poppies outdoors) 3) N. tabacum 4) N. Rustica and one of the burned cannabis, now recovering excellent, picture is a few days old
