Yes, for best results one always trims their mushrooms. It's one of the mainstays of mycology, really, that's why it's never mentioned - it's just a given.

Trimming them as pins are ideal. In other words, as soon as they pop up they are ready to be trimmed.
Use a scalpel to remove the head of the pin. It will grow out much faster and thicker than normal, and eventually form a new and very large mushroom cap.
Sorry, I did not read your post at first. Trimming is one of the newer techniques developed for home mycologists. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed.

You obviously need to re-read some of the basic mycology techniques.

Serious answer: once in a while, you'll get a few early shrooms that just mess things up for the rest, and you need to pick them. It's pretty rare, really. Just wait until the veils start to open, then pick 'em.
-------------------- You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?

a substrate can only support so many mushies at one time so if you trim some (by that I mean harvest to thin out) so the mushies that are left can get bigger but it will not yield more. (unless your next flush comes in quicker or something by doing so.)
