you're at the half-way point.  the sclerotia is probably just starting to form.... contamination issues aside

I have some RGS jars of mexicana-a at 6 weeks.  within the last couple days, I can just start to notice brownish areas developing.

I too am tempted to open one, just because I have more than enough at this 6 week point, and I plan on doing another batch tomorrow, eventually (in another two months) I will have a continuous supply; by opening one jar/week after the three month period begins for the first set of jars.

I opened another one today, which seemed farthest along, and nothing but the smell of alcohol again. So I'm gonna toss the whole thing, all the jars. I'm disappointed. I don't know what went wrong. But I'd rather eat a fruit body than a sclerotia "root" anyway. We'll try again someday.

sorry to hear that Shrazoom. my MexA jars are almost at 2 months along since inoculation and still no stones visible from outside of jars. some of them that got shaken prior to full colonization are finally just reaching the bottom of the substrate as most of the myc was hanging around the upper half portion of the BR in the quart jar. must have prepared the BR substrate to moist as well because many of my jars were and still are colonizing much like your previous pictures that i commented on.  probably won't have any success with sclerotia formation from these jars either but am gonna let them to their thing for a couple more months for the hell of it.

I am surprised by the amount of Mex A grows that have recently fallen flat. Y'all may want to bring it to the attention of your vendor.

Perhaps they'll have to revert to a previous generation, in order to improve the stone producing genetics.

I have never had a problem w/ multi-spore Mex A... but I am working w/ older genetics. It may be worth looking at this issue.

kinda thought the same thing, but am too new at this to point fingers.  noticed they haven't been in stock for over a month. would've been more of a grump if the ATL#7 wasn't doing as good as it is.

I am also going to let most of my jars do their thing, but at this point I'm not expecting anything.

Cervantes, how would you suggest one go about bringing this sort of issue to the vendor's attention? They may take responsibility? I did get mine from Sporeworks, which seems to have a favorable reputation among this community. But they did make it clear it's for "microscopic use only" so...

I don't know if they'll take responsibility, and you can't exactly talk about your issues in cultivation terms when vendors sell spores for miscrosopy purposes only. But there have been a lot of Mex A duds lately... and that is odd. At the very least, the vendor may take care of the issue for future customers.

Just be nice... and be prepared to get nothing in return.

I too had no luck with mexicana despite several tries while ÀTL 7`has always been a treat to grow an very forgiving. I wonder whats up with mexicana as of late.

wow...I thought I was the only one having the problem.  My ATL jars are going great, but none of my mex grows have yielded stones.  I'm sure a bunch of them were my fault (too much shaking, contamination, etc...) but interesting to hear that others are having problems.

Yep..

I think I got mexicana, but I don't know about the "A" part. I got some good myceleum, but no stones so far after nearly three months.  Maybe we got "B", in which case, it's still worth casing.  The shrooms are said to be excellent, and stones are said to frequently form under fruiting conditions. Still, be glad you got some ATL7, wish I had.

If your doing MS, that's way..How about  growing it out on agar ?

Sure, agar and strain isolation and other advanced techniques are valuable for ultimate yields, but shouldn't be necessary just to get some sclerotia growth.

Is it possible, if the lid to the jars were removed, and the open jars were placed within a large tub, or otherwise, that they would produce mushrooms? (in the case of Mexicana A.)

It is possible, but unlikely. Small containers cased w/ stones and/or sub work fine.

Oh, I wonder about casing in the jar? My little half pint jars never made any stones... could they have fruited?
Logic says no, but I should have tried it. Maybe I will next time.
