People debate the evidence as much as the theory, especially when one or more parties doesn't have the required expertise to be discussing such matters. Hence the forum.

I didn't agree with all of Becker myself. Especially his belief that we could all find relief from anxiety in a religious experience of life. He really copped out there imo.

Once I checked out my personal motivations for action and studied my culture I became convinced of the power of death anxiety in human experience. I also found lot of my repression in myself around the issue.

Now I do think about my death anxiety fairly constantly and suprisingly enough it's lessoning somewhat as far as I can tell. Interesting.

the debate itself is the attempt to provide or arrive at 'evidence' or 'proof'

so to say we can't start a debate without first having evidence is pretty harsh imo

death anxiety is probably the best topic a human can attempt to come to terms with...

this is probably one of the only things thats 'special' about humans
the fact we can be fully aware of our own mortality

You can start a debate without it but at some point you need to provide some. How many years does one need to respond?

What proof/evidence is there for this, unless the person who reads it follows the advice themself?

You could say 'why should i follow the advice? i want proof first' but this is just plain ignorance & lazyness to look...

The proof is in the pudding, by looking into the mortality of yourself, you find the proof thats its a powerful thing to be probed into... nobody can proove its powerful & insightful, you have to look into it yourself, thats the only evidence

Im sure you agree looking into death anxiety is powerful, but can you proove it or give evidence other than your own experience?

Becker and others provide evidence of death anxiety in humans and culture. This work can be referenced.

Of course the fact that you stated its the (best topic) is subjective and an opinion.

That wasnt my point

Its obvious death anxiety is rampant in almost every sentient being, but there is no evidence that looking into the nature of death anxiety is beneficial to the being

However i feel it is tremendously beneficial to look into, but can i provide evidence?
No way, the evidence is found in the experience of looking into it...not in the theory,

The mian point is, if the person reading the theory doesn't experiment & pratice, it is not the fault of the person who presents the theory

Fine I agree but then it really doesn't belong in this forum as stated. There's the pub and the mystery forum and maybe physical and mental.

I might but it would be in the wrong forum if I couldn't respond with evidence to any call for proof.

I make mistakes too.

How exactly is it possible to be anxious over death itself?  Wouldn't it be more about being anxious about what is lost at death, or what death may bring?  Either way, I don't think "death anxiety" is really a term that gets to the crux of the matter.

Terminology can be a double edged sword of sorts.  Its like a belief in ghosts, the more you have one the more likely sounds in the dark will be feared as ghosts.  If you believe in death anxiety, all your anxiety can become about death, and all of your thoughts of death become anxious.  Thinking about death gains nothing from fear or anxiety, shit it doesn't even gain much from us thinking about it.  Strictly speaking, we never ever, ever know death.

What we fear is loss of the personality, the "self". Death is the vehical of this loss.

My 6 year old told me that when I die, that he wants to die to so he can be buried right beside me. Is this death anxiety happening at an early age?

I have never really spoken to him about death except when he was 4. I caugh him catching frogs, and once they became too maimed from playing with them he smashed them flat and threw them in the garbage.

The other day my sisters kid (3 years old girl) asked her..

'are we all going to die?'

My sister tried to explain that after a long long time we all die, she started crying, eventually she stopped crying, looked up at my sister & said

'you are joking aren't you?'

On some level we all deny the inevitability of it, but imagine life with no death, it would be pure ignorance, constantly perpetuating imagination, it must come to an end, paradoxically death is really the generous side of life, we're not having anything 'taken away' from us...why cry over a sack of flesh & bones?
(of course im not sure id say this to my neice!)
