What is the inherent barrier between Philosophy and Mysticism
    #15501636 -

why does the shroomery choose to differentiate the two in such a subversive way?

as if almost to say that mysticism can't be importantly philosophical, and philsophy can't be utterly mystical and damningly mysterious (even to the point of being vague/ obscured).

I would say that either category actually compounds and intensifies the validity of the other

furthermore, you can't (or hell ill even write a prescription) you shouldnt, talk about one without the other..... then faith is reduced to dogmatics, and the truth can be spoonfed; it never requires criticism....and conversely the overabundance of logic ignores the relevence/validity of life experiences, feelings, etc, this permutes the discovories of objectivity into an undifferentiated monad like reserve of nuetral truths to be discovered ->mined and subsequently sold as forms of subjective authentication; an image, which reduces the subjective experience to a meaningless traumatic illusion; one of vacuous delusions only meant to abdicate the subject of their engagement in reality; to provide an unknown/unconscious utility to the greater dimension of your being (making subjectivity meaningless), whatever this dimension should be: chemotaxis of molecules and forces that create life, whatevs

but ya it always irks me when religious people haven't been reading their nietzche or chesterton

but its equally as annoying seeing your philosophy-know-it-all with literally zero% comprehension of theology

In the context of the shroomery, philosophy can be questioned and challenged while mysticism can only be discussed.

anyone else notice how i was able to tie in a partial critique of capitalism within the humus of a basic framework argument?

that sums up the harmful paradigm outlined in my OP pretty well.

but now back to the question, why is there this arbitrary seperation? are you to say that the mystical forum even attempts to deter questions/challenges (which are an intrinsic component of the spiritual struggle)? is theoretical analysis and debate of theology not allowed in the mystical forum?

i feel like a bias towards one or the other innevitably co-opts the relavence of both, making either/or a wash and an act of futility

i don't see any barrier
I float between the two forums as if they were one although ps&p has slightly more activity so I visit a bit more frequently.

i agree with diecommie and kickle. i enjoy posting in both forums but ps&p seems to be where ideas are tested for logic (whatever that means) and s&m consists of discussion more than anything. it makes sense to me because some people don't take logic seriously, so they have a place to talk without getting annoyed by the evidence worship that goes on in the ps&p and similarly those shroomerites who are more empirically minded won't get annoyed at what they consider to be flaky spiritual posts which have no grounding in reality.

There is a lot of history between the two forums.  I dont know if you are aware of that or not.  They used to be the same forum, but there was tension between two camps.  Those who wanted to share their experiences, thoughts and beliefs and those who wanted debate, discuss and critique.  It wasn't really possible to make one set of forum rules to satisfy both camps, so two different forums with two sets of rules were made.  Originally, this one was something like Spirituality and Philosophy and the other one was Mysticism, Religion and the Paranormal.  Over time the spirituality label migrated to the mysticism forum and conspiracies split off of the paranormal label.

Its interesting how the simple names of the forums effect the content of the forums.  When the mysticism forum had paranormal in its name and there was no conspiracy forum it was filled with crop circle and alien threads.  Then when the conspiracy forum came along the crop circles got less popular and 9/11 stuff dominates that board.

Philosophy is putting mysticism into words. Hard to find a real philosopher who seeks the truth and nothing but the truth. This is why philosophy has degraded so much, desire-filled muddy headed somewhat intelligent people can spoof a couple less intelligent people, and that gives them a bit of confidence. I don't know why a mystic would care about a doubter, he experienced his firsthand. It is the job of a philosopher to doubt, but there are too many weak world chasing people calling themselves truth seekers. When one doubts Everything enough, the truth will dawn on him. Look at Nietzche, he went all the way, and found the truth. Partial doubters haven't had enough of weakness, and still care too much about the world. A true follower of Christ or any real religion is the most powerful man alive, think about the things Jesus said, things like give up everything for truth, sell everything you have, leave your family behind. This is hardcore shit were contemplating. You can't find the truth until you just don't give a fuck about anything anymore, sex money fame worldly power, even death, I want the Fucking Truth not Toys.

That doesn't really have anything to do with why those are two forums.

There were a bunch of people who had a fit when someone said something they disagreed with.  Those people would try and get moderators/administrators to ban anyone who disagreed with them.  Because those people tended to favor mystical worldviews, when the forums were split, one was titled mysticism and spirituality.  This was simply an artifact of the fact that those types of people were the ones who had an issue with dissent and discussion- it had little to do with the actual topical boundries of the discussions appropriate to either forum.

For whatever reason, the actual purpose of the split and the creation of the mystery forum seems to have never really been enacted.  There still aren't any real differences between the forums as per the rules, at least the last time I looked.  Despite this, the mystery forum was supposed to be a place where you could ban people who disagreed with you and the philosophy forum a place where you could discuss issues and so forth.

(I've heard other purposes for the creation of the mystery forum, but they all seemed inconsistent to me- it seems it boil down to "I want anyone banned who disagrees with me".  Of course, that would be viewpoint neutral and hence wouldn't favor any particular worldview, which would frustrate the aims of those who objected to disagreement or discussion.  I suspect this is why no rules instituting the censorship that was the very purpose of the forum split were ever enacted.)
