This question has been asked a billion times, but yes size does effect potency if I recall correctly.  As soon as the fruitbody forms, the psilocybin content and Psilocin content start oxidizing at a particular rate. 

Not sure what the rate is, but maybe F=Fo*e^(-kt) but that formula could be too large.  Now take the psilocybin content of the cubensis mushroom (YOU can find this on erowid or even on this site I believe), and plug it in for Fo.  k is a constant that you have to find experimentally, t is the time (you can make it whatever time you want), Fo is the initial value, F is the final value...

If so, it isn't a very good one.  Thousands of people are out there picking them just for the psilocybin.

But on the reverse side of the coin, thousands of people are growing them just for the psilocybin, ensuring their survival.

I have read that the reason that the smaller fruits are more potent is because unlike the cells in humans which multiply, mushroom cells expand. This would just strech out the actives meaning that the rest of the size is made by water intake. Any truth to this RR?

Smaller mushrooms are more potent by weight than larger ones.  I won't speculate on why that is.

I'm talking about the actual size of the mushroom which is determined by substrate depth, not the stage of growth like right before the veil is ready to break.

It seems in nature that naturally smaller psilocybe mushrooms like liberty caps and caerlupies tend to be smaller then cubes but more potent. I know they are different species but perhaps it has something to do with it.

Thoughts/ answers/ questions/ insults?

well not quite. yes mushrooms grow by cell expansion by inflating with water. Much like a balloon inflates many times its size with air. Moisture gets pumped from the mycelium to the fruitbody by capilarly action.

So a fully grown mushrooms has roughly the same number of cells as a pin. However, if when the fruitbodys grew it was just water that was added, then picking the pin before cell expansion would mean it would have the same active content as the fully grown fruit which isnt the case

smaller fruits are generaly more potent by per gram of material.

I had a 30 gram monster which failed to live up to the strength of smaller fruits making up 20 grams

Hypothetical scenario here.

Both mushrooms growing side by side,

One barely tears veil partially, 20 grams wet.

Two tears veil fully, 30 grams wet.

One has 0.200/g active compounds.
Two has 0.183/g active compounds

One has 4mg total active compounds.
Two has 5.5mg total active compounds.

Unless you really hate spores, why not let it open?

no correlation just depth to size and flushes. genetics and in my opinion what is the food can change potency
