According to my dog's bitch, size is dependent on what you are using as your substrate, as well as casing. Verm/BRF substrate seems to produce smaller fruits than using grain. Using dung in the casing, or spawning with dung and then casing seems to produce larger fruits than casing with the 50/50 verm/peat casing. Hope this helps.

Ive found that water content effects mushroom size considerably. I have gotten enourmous fruits off of brf/verm casings. I have a pic in the pics forum of a Amazonian that was just about 10 inches long, and a cap being 3 1/2 inches wide.

Straight grain casings have been in the works for me over the past few months, and I have been unhappy with the results. Casings made from 2-3 pints of birdseed, about 3 inches thick, have only yeilded small mushrooms. I feel this could be that my water ratio has not been perfect, and my casings becoming too dry, and not having enough water to fruit like they would like to.

Dung containers have been the best so far. Yeilding the largest, and most dense flushes. BRF/Verm casings have lacked the good multiple flushes. 3rd flush on dung, and still very dense fruiting patterns. The mushrooms are incredible. WHile I was picking them, I kept saying in my head "This is pathetic". I was being sarcastic because it was so pathetic how big they were...they were like mini trees growing in my bathroom. Picking them were so fun because they made a snapping sound and I couldnt get my hand around 6 of them toegher cause they were so wide!! lol!

Dung really keeps its moisture content up as well. I havent had any problems with watering.

Plus if you use just a big 18-gallon container, the moisture being drawn from the substrate itself creates the perfect humidiity.
