i am trying to figure-out at what point in time i should harvest these little sweeties...
when is it best? if i wait too long will they lose potency? will they continue to get larger? is that a good thing? when i harvest these, will new ones continue to grow? where is the missing yellow sock??? SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!

When the cap begins to open(and the veil begins to tear).

...hmmmm twas what i had read earlier, however for some reason it seems they have grown with open caps. perhaps not enough humidity? i've actually kinda been fairly crappy at that this first round.
i hope to post pictures later today if that would help?

pick em right after the veil breaks, they wont get much larger and they wont gain any potency ( i think) more pinheads will appear in 2 to 5 days usually, this is calle dthe second flush. there can be many flushes of shrooms. enjoy

Caps usually get about this big
Harvest them when they're about this size

wow!
okay then this is my first harvest ever in the universe. i think i may still need a few tips on growing mushrooms. these ones grew really quickly, as in about 3 days - but i don't know if that's all good. they grew directly off of the cakes, as i had only found this amazing page as of today.
misted almost daily, and have them at the perfect temperature that i read they like... they have light for just over twelve hours of the day and are on a timer.

that there is.... 8 250ml cakes (sorry for conversion)
i seem to be getting lots of really small shrooms as opposed to a few really big ones, which is what i should be looking for right? perhaps larger cakes?

Well you want alot of big ones, but you're doing really good. I'd work with cakes for awhile then try moving on to cased grain, then bulk substrates.

Excellent, it's a good first flush for a first timer!!! Congratulations. Try casing the cakes, there's plenty of info at the grow/find section(main page) on how to do it.
Peace,

alright then, do you think i could break-up my current cakes right now? they've fruited the once, can i case them still would they be alright?
Edit: if i were to instead of throwing these beauties away, say possibly enjoy some really horrible tasting orange juice with some friends instead. is there anything to know about the smaller shrooms? potencywise or anything?Edited by Nolgthorn on 09/08/01 01:00 PM.

Yeah, go ahead and case them. Wait for them to flush. Smaller shrooms are just as potent if not more so than mature fruits.
