newbie question

3 weeks ago i innoculated 10 jars, using the PF tek instructions. everything seems to be going fine, except for about 3 of my jars havent even colonized to a size bigger than a dime in the spots i innoculated them. i realize that this is most likely because i only squirted a little little bit of the spore solution into these jars, whereas the jars i squirted alot into are almost fully colonized. so my question is, is this normal for it to colonizing this slowly after 3 weeks, (and if so how long would it take for them to fully colonize), or is there maybe something wrong with these jars?

How Big are your Jars? If you get a good spore syringe and shook it up good you need very little of the liquid per jar, it is true however that more fluid per jar disperses more spores hence faster colonization. But 3 weeks for a dime size is very very slow you should see that by 7 days, or way less depending on the type of mushroom your growing. If its not contaminated let it go, and birth the others. However the longer it takes to colonize the full cake the more chance of contamination you have, so watch them . Mind you thats just what I hear. NORMLEdited by dracon on 09/07/01 01:10 AM.

Well it shouldn't have made that much difference if you shook it in the begining remember you can't see an idividuial spoore only clusters of them. Well if there not contaminated let them go, If they continue not to grow theres not much you can do, if you birth them more then likely they'll fall to contams. At least thats what I hear. sounds like very slow colonization to me. if EVERYTHING else was the same as the other jars, wait another while before giving up. try loosening the lid and inverting the jar to give it better O2 supply. no weird smell?

yep i did everything exactly the same as the other jars, except for the amount of the spore solution that was put into each jar. and there are no weird smells. the temp in the closet they are in ranges from about 74 to 79degrees and the other jars are looking awesome. ill loosen the lids and invert and see how that goes.
