newbie question

I know this is a newbie question but what is geolite? Is it those brownish red balls that people use instead of perlite? What is it made out of? Someone who is knowledgable could you please compare the pros and cons of using geolite vs. perlite? Thanks

Geolite is the brownish red balls you are seeing around...in pictures.
they are used in hydroponics.
Geolite is made from kiln dryed clay.

The main difference in using geolite would be.....you can put the cakes right on top of the geolite....and water will get wicked up into the cakes.

You shouldn't stick cakes on perilite.

Aside from buying one of those pod growers (even though they look pretty swanky), where would someone get ahold of some of those geolite balls?
