Alcohol, can reduce inhibitions, allowing increased sociability and emotion.  This, along with euphoria and a decrease in anxiety are just some of the reasons a person may choose to drink

Alcohol is very erratic/dangerous when abused irresponsibly...but umm...I still really like it

Please amuse me. Give me your arguments on what beneficial properties alcohol brings into our society.

I'll bite.

Alcohol is a social lubricant.  It allows people to drop their inhibitions and "walls" and interact more personally and directly.  In the business world it is MASSIVELY beneficial for getting deals done and relationships built.  In the social world it has paved the way for countless relationships.

O great one of these guys, this is why our culture is so fucked. Everyone needs a drink to be able to drop there inhibitions or not be a anxiety ridden retard. Heres an idea instead of using alcohol as a false sense of confidence why don't you grow a pair? I'm sure getting ass faced drunk and telling your boss to suck a dick is MASSIVELY beneficial...

No - not "needs", I'm saying it can really help. Consider it a tool in your tool box.  Sometimes its fun to pull it out. Just like weed or LSD or caffeine.

Why would you get drunk  and tell your boss to "suck a dick" ??? Ideally you would get drunk and spend the night bonding with him.  Both of you would have fun and now you are ahead. And even if not it would still have been a good time.

If someone cannot function without it and is an "anxiety ridden retard" without it then clearly there are other issues at play and most likely one should not be drinking. It should NEVER be used as a crutch - NO substance should.

Having a drink with someone, or better yet getting drunk with someone is instant bonding.  Its allowed me personally to spend time with congressmen, senators, movie producers, billionaires and people I would normally have had no access to. And it has helped tighten personal bonds for me many many times over the years.  So while you say there are many negatives to alcohol you are right - bad things sometimes do happen as a result of people drinking too much.  BUT to say there are no positives is idiotic.

Its like banning fire because it burnt down your house.

And i do agree with you that it is good technique to make business deals. BUT.

It allows people to drop their inhibitions and "walls" to beat their spouse regularly. To rob people or engage in violence. Nothing better to drink yourself in to engage in fun and social activities like those i just mentioned. But i retract my statement. There indeed are positive takes on alcohol. I would not label myself idiotic. I would not make a comparison with fire burning down my house. Since your house could burn down by your own wrongdoing. by lightning by someone else or by being drunk and putting a candle near a drape. like i did one time.  The negatives on alcohol far outweigh any positive effects. that's a fact.

I did put the drape out in time though.

Sounds like someone needs a drink!

I like alcohol more than weed, do want to punish me when I want to relax and have a drink after work or on the weekends instead of a more 'worthy drug'?

Lately whenever I have been drinking, I've also been relapsing on some bad shit, so I'm taking a break from alcohol for a while. It sucks that I have to do that, but my stupid decisions while drunk are not worth the trouble.

I'm going to try and replace alcohol with :potleaf:

I miss alcohol already

Well  - I don't think when we are talking about weighing negatives vs positives we can talk about any conclusion as a "fact". The majority of Americans and Europeans drink occasionally - or at least have.  The majority of people who drink do so with no ill effects to those around them. No harm no foul. You can argue health benefits vs harm based on intake amount until the cows come home with out reaching a solid conclusion (red wine has antioxidants but some studies show more breast cancer yadda yadda)  We can't just say drinking is stupid b/c a small % has problems with it.

I imagine though the one thing we CAN say for SURE is that there is nothing wrong at ALL with NOT drinking. AND we can say that if one is having detrimental effects from drinking one should NOT be drinking.
But to tell people who drink enjoyably from time to time with zero ill effects that was they are doing is wrong seems draconian.

Sounds to me like you have no clue how to drink and enjoy it. I've never once hit a person while drunk or driven a car. Some people can handle their liquor and some can't. Seems like you're the latter

i think it's probably the other people who can't handle it that he doesn't enjoy. I can relate, but I'm not gonna call for prohibition.

I would say just stay away from them but that's kinda hard, especially when they randomly come swerving into your car at high speeds..but

While I agree its laughable to make alcohol legal and the opposite for Marijuana......Im glad its legal. I enjoy a glass of wine or beer after a long day of working my ass off. Used in moderation its been proven beneficial for your health physically and mentally.

i agree alcohol is a retarded drug in nearly every way.

wine is healthy because of the grapes, not because of the alcohol.  i'm not aware of any evidence anywhere that alcohol is anything other than unhealthy.

personally i don't drink or associate with people while they're drinking.

I agree that no drug should be made illegal.

if people want to do dumb shit, thats their right.

i'd rather hang out with someone that uses heroin everyday to unwind than someone who drinks a beer everyday to unwind.

So many people ruin their lives because of alcohol.

Yes,they ruined their lives, not the booze but chances are if such a potentially harmful substance wasn't so readily available, the vast majority wouldn't fuck their lives up.

Sure, most people can drink without a problem but that small percent who go overboard cause much bigger problems in society as a whole.

They can ruin other peoples lives through car crashes, assaults, you name it.

Let's not a get into a 'why is weed illegal when booze is legal?' argument but for fuck sake. I'm no scientist or statistician but look at the deaths alcohol consumption/drunkenness has caused and show me a death from weed consumption/being stoned. I'm certain the result are staggering in every way.

I enjoy drinking myself but it just doesn't make sense. The laws are topsy turvy.

How do you function in an adult world if you wont associate with people when they have been drinking? Parties, dinners, restaurants, work functions....almost all social gatherings will involve it.  Unless you live in Utah.
