UK Psilocybin mushrooms list. * 1
    #9172335 -

I thought I'd put together a little list of UK active mushrooms with decent potency that doesn't fade too much when dried, Thought it would be helpful for all of the information to be in one place.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybe_semilanceata Psilocybe Semilanceata

http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Psilocybe_montana.html Psilocybe Montana

http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Psilocybe_coprophila.html Psilocybe Coprophila

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybe_cyanescens Psilocybe Cyanescens

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria Amanita Muscaria

http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Panaeolus_foenisecii.html Panaeolus Foenisecii

Sorry all the links aren't the same site.

Hope that helped someone

p.s: If anyone else knows of any other please add to this list, I'd love for a great information post for all UK hunters

P. montana, P. coprophila, Panaeolina foenisecii, and A. muscaria don't contain psilocybin.

From what I know, Psilocybe cyanescens, Psilocybe semilanceata, Panaeolus subbalteatus, and some Gymnopilus species are the psilocybin species that grow there.

Amanita muscaria contains much different alkaloids.

P. montana, P. coprophila and Panaeolina foenisecii won't. they are completely inactive.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Seems like I should only bother looking for Libs, Muscaria, and cyanescens in UK then. Any others I would be wasting my time.

I see so many on my way to and from work. I walk past a farm and through the woods and I see a LOT of different mushrooms in many different ground types and it annoys me to think that some might be active, or even tasty. But I can't learn all of them, and I can't collect all of them either.

Any advice? And set 'rule' to follow to help me ID active from inactive on the spot?

thers loads of mushroom id books come in pocket size for this purpose, just get yourself one and carry it with you and you can have a flick thru everytime you see something intresting,or if your realy not sure about one you could tic it off what you think it is or what it could be in the book and take a photo of the mushroom,or take it with you and do further reseserch online.

btw i was thinking it would be intresting to hear just how many folk here on the shroomery have found psilocybe cyanescens in the uk,i know of one guy personaly thats found them in the south of england but it would be good to know just how mutch of the uk they have spread out in to.
ive had the od look in areas that have had bark put down to control the weeds but its just been the od look and havent realy tried properly to find them but i may give it a go this season.

I know I have seen them before here in Leeds, before I knew they were magic that is, because I remember the wavy tops of them and seeing them on a magic list I thought how I had passed up an oportunity there. The shae of them is one of the recognisable mushrooms I rememeber.

Office buildings have a lot of bark outside them, and car parks. City shrooms. Love it.

ive seen mushrooms here that look quite simular to cyanescens but on closer inspection definatley not them.
as a gardener i work with bark a lot and have been trying to find out where most of the sources of the bark is and what type of trees it comes from,im not having mutch luck tho,i would imagiane that most of it would be mixed, but its certainly becoming a lot more popular over the past ten years or so,i expect to hear about cyanescens finds more frequently in the near future.

Hi shponglecybin - I have found p. cyanescens once in well-maintained parkland west of London  - I think it was around November year before last and they were growing in beds with, as far as I remember, roses, rhododendron and azalea. The substrate was pretty decomposed - in other words not just a thick layer of woodchips but very well rotted varied organic matter with some old woodships mixed in. I haven't been back to the site since.

A friend got little effect from about twelve dried specimens, some months after picking - I understood them to be more potent than semilanceata but perhaps they lose a lot of potency in drying, so storage could be an issue!

On a different note - Liberty caps are just starting to fruit on the tops of the shropshire hills - no luck yet further south on lowground..
