Hume's Guillotine: Moral Judgements from Factual Premises
    #10954116 -

I am interested in reading your thoughts on Hume's argument that an ethical conclusion (what you ought to do) does not logically proceed from factual premises (observations of what is). Does this not cripple ethics?

Is that a Razor gone awry?

I'd like to hear more; I'm not all too familiar with Hume.

On the rebound, how would this guillotine relate to Nietzschean values (i.e. revaluation, the will to power, etc)?

Hume got what was coming to him IMO.

The birth of modern liberalism was in his death.

What if you make observations of how others act, and use that to make logical conclusions on ethical behaviour?

They chopped his head off and realized that they should stop being so judgmental of people, trying to reach utopia by killing people based on the findings of ethics inquisitions was clearly a flawed manner. I am postulating that this event caused the french to realize the merits of a society where individuals are granted maximum freedom in maters that do not effect one another.

Huh? Hume died of natural causes in Scotland, a decade before the French Revolution.
