I'm with ratdog. Usually right after the pressure drops in the PC i remove the still HOT jars and shake then.  I really just keep rotating and twisting them slowly as not to create mush inside.  If I have time I will do that every hour or so until they are completely cool and they will not stick together anymore.

Be sure to cover the tops of the jars with foil before you PC, this helps reduce "extra" water working it's way into the jars.

The above posters are correct. Shake, shake, shake until you inoculate, then don't shake again until it's around 30-40% colonized.

As for the "glue" at the bottom, in my experience this comes from letting too much of the WBS pop during the simmer.

I wouldn't recommend allowing your water to ever boil while you are simmering.

I do mine at about a medium until it is steaming really good, stirring often. Once it's steaming really good, then I lower it to medium low and continue stirring often for 20-30 minutes. Just until about 5% of the kernels have popped, and the rest are kinda soft and squishy, but still intact.

I never let it boil, but there was ALOT of wbs in my pot, so the bottom layer was def getting hot.  At the bottom of the pot when I was done, there was a good amount of glue, but I never let anything boil.  I'll just bash them up really good.

A phonebook sucks ass though I must say, it took me like 50 bangs to do one jar, which ended up opening and spilling out wbs, there goes another jar, I scooped back in the wbs and closed it really fast, and wrote "contam" on the outside of the jar haha.

Where can I get a single bike tire?

Are you talking the intertube, or an actual tire?

The frequent stirring during the simmer will help prevent the bottom from getting too hot. STIR STIR STIR. It is much better, I promise.

Well I probably wont be doing any more WBS for a few months so what is done is done.  I sitrred stirred stirred i swear!  I just had too much wbs in the crab pot I was using, should have done 2 pots.  I should be fine though.

I have no idea what I'm talking about actually, I need to know how to break this wbs up efficiently, its not working the way I'm doing it.

How full are the jars? If you over fill them it's harder to break them up. I beat them against my couch, or the edge of my matress.

Phonebook, side of bed, hand, wont work.

I cant find my fucking special lugnut adaptor for my spare tire either, not good.  Hope I dont get a flat.  Bike tire it is.

See how its caked up at the bottom?  I've been banging it forever and cant get it to budge.

I kept waking my roommate up at 5 in the morning trying to bang them apart after the PC runs, so I had to wait till the morning, and now its near impossible, anyone have any suggestions?

spare car tire. take it out of car/truck and bring it indoors for a little while.

I was going to say take the jars to your car and whack them on your cars tire, but the neighbors might think you're loosing it..

I've used my hand before.  I wouldn't recommend it though.  you gotta strike the thumb/palm muscle area with a downward force.  I work out regurarly so its kinda tough there, but still even then after a couple jars my hand was sore; and I kept having visions of the jar breaking/hand bleeding with each and every strike. I ended up bringing my bike inside..lol much easier..

Wrap them up in what?  Tie it how?  That seems incredibly risky.

I find that my basketball comes in very handy for this.

I really only need it to break apart my grains once they have fully colonized though.

Time to go buy a bike tire, wbs sucks.

How long does it usually take for you guys to break up a single jar?

I did one jar in like 10 minutes...  20 more to go...
