Having a hard time breaking apart my WBS
    #10949606 -

It's come to my attention that a lot of us here don't simmer, I just wanted to see what was up with that.

I just finished soaking my wbs for 20 hours.  I strained it by using a screen window over top of a bucket in the tub.  I strained it every 30 minutes and then let it sit for 18 hours.  The water was completely  clear, I just looked at it now and it was dirty again, so I did a final straining.  And now I have it all in a pot right now, on medium to low heat, and once I see steam I am going to set a timer for 20-30 minutes.

I am using Docs WBS Tek, and his says to simmer, am I going to be alright?  What do all of you do?

sounds like a lot of work

i am new so this is not a tek

i take my wbs and cover it in the pot with about 4 inch of water
remove the floaters
bring to boil and simmer for 20 min
drain for 30 load jars and pc 90min at 15 psi

quick and easy

oh i also had some left over wbs in the fridge so i added it to the new stuff on the last bath half way threw the simmer....... i have this happen next time i will add it 18 min into simmer just to heat it again because some wbs blew up during pc......or i just might chuck it to the birds.

good luck man and however you do it just do it.

I simmered last time I used WBS.  After I seen the water runoff from the simmer, I would stick with doing it.

I have rye berries soaking right now, and will be simmering tomorrow.

Alot of people probably simmer.

This is what you get with the method ratdog has stated. I usually let it set in the water for 45 min, then rinse off with hot water till its just draining clear water, drain till correct moisture content and pc.  i use just wbs ,no gypsum. yet atleast...

There you go, thanks for jacking my thread for a bit, but yes.

I soaked for 20 hours, rinsed 10x more than I did last time (my last wbs preparation worked just fine, I just wanted some further input, sometimes when you have it right, it doesnt mean it was done right the best ya know?)

I simmered for probably 20 minutes.

I stuck all of it in 18 quart jars.

I dropped one on the way to PCing and it shattered, and let out a very loud "Fuck".  Pardon my language, but I was just quoting myself from earlier haha.

I PC'ed the 7 this morning, PCing 6 right now, and I'll PC The last 5 after that, and just set my alarm to wake up and turn off the stove.

It needs to be done now, otherwise the wbs will start to germinate, it usually starts to germinate and go bad after 36 hours, and its been 24 right now, so I better get on it right?

I have a panama syringe that was left over from my last grow, I got it from Ralphsters, I also have a Creeper spore print I got from ATK, and after seeing his grow, and hearing of its potency, I should be in for a great batch.  I also have a chilean print, a texan print, and a golden teacher print, but I'll prob just do the GT's, Chileans, Creepers, and Amazons.  I got a good yield from the chileans, and great fruits on the GT's, the Panamas will be an experiment, and Creepers will be a guarantee.

I've got some Natty Boh at my side, and a synthesizer and drum machine, so I'll be able to keep myself busy hopefully.

Thanks to everyone for the input, I'll be sure to put up my new grow thread within the next couple of weeks.

Up, just curious... did you rinse and drain after simmering? Or just load straight into jars?

The WBS should be rinsed very well after the simmer, and left to drain for at least an hour, for sure until there is NO more water draining.

My cat found RogerRabbit's grain prep to be kindof easy and got no contams.

http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Grain-Preparation

Its basically just rinse several times first, soak, rinse once more, boil 10 min, drain well.

Just cook it as if you were going to eat it.

I rinsed VERY well.

Kept straining the water everytime I saw it get brownish, then kept rinsing and removing floaters until the water ran clear completely.

Let sit for 20 hours, then rinsed in a strainer in the sink.  Simmered for 20 minutes, and then I did this.

Used cold water from the shower head to rinse it while it was on my windows screen door, it worked great.

How do you like that ? :tongue2:

Damn it, I just looked at the bottom of my first 7 jars, it looks pretty gluey at the bottom.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Can I bang the hell out of them to loosen em all up?  Or is that glueness gonna screw me...  I mean even if it doesnt colonize that bottom part, I dont really need my myc to go into consolidation mode, since I'll be spawning it to a bulk sub... right?

Another question.

Whens the best time to shake after inoculation?  Right after?  or 25 percent in?

i beat my jars man ...............

well ya i do right after i pull them out the pc. you have to to even out the h20.
jars always have seed in the bottom that has more moisture and the ones at the verry bottom are usualy burst so no mater how much you rinse it you still get that glue. i think the shrooms like it my self. i think its easy to brake down. but you can not have too much glue if you do then you pc'd with too much h2o. if you let them sit unshaken for a day or 2 the problem gets worse and worse. so beat them and even it all out right after you get them out the pc and then do it again just before you knock um up.

try to keep the h20 dispursed evenly. and if they sit for more than 3 days beat them again.

oh man real sorry about the jacking of da thread. just don't know what came over me.  lol

good luck with what ever kind of shroom you grow. my oyster is doing good as i bet your knock will. pm me when you post some pics of your shit.
