Doctors
    #10922542 -

Do you think doctors actually know what they're doing? I mean sure, some are excellent at what they do - but it seems like the vast majority barely know what they're talking about. With the rise of self-help and self-medication in the last few years, it only seems to deepen my curiosity. It seems like if you go in to see the doctor, one might get prescribed harmful medications or be given a false diagnosis, and often times the problem can be treated with simple lifestyle changes, in place of medications. When I see the doctor, he tells me OTC thing are actually harmful and things I read on the internet are false, but when I research on the internet, I read that my doctors don't know what they're talking about. Is this some kind of insane scam by the drug companies and the like? I am not a doctor - who am I supposed to trust here? Just something I've been thinking about lately.

last time i went to the doctors for strep throat or some tonsil infection, they made me wait 3 hours(i had difficulty swallowing my own spit, let alone food), Well, when they finally took care of me all they did was stick an Iv with antibiotics in me, prescribe antibiotics to me, and they charged me 3500. -_-'

I would consider a doctor's diagnosis of an issue above my own 99.99% of the time.  It's not a walk in the park to become a medical doctor.  You have to know your shit.

A lot of OTC shit can be really harmful.  I would trust a doctor over the corrupt as shit FDA, or any big pharma companies.

I remember I had strep once as a kid and they diagnosed me with leukemia, like full on said I had it, then a few days later they tell me "oh, it was actually just strep, sorry".

They are not as good as they make out. They're still human so they make mistakes. Especially since their job is so complicated. But they try and give off the appearance that they are infallible so that the patient trusts them.

All health care people are taught this, the instant your patient doesn't trust you is the instant you've lost the patient

surgery is pretty well developed but it's like changing parts on a car
for the most part, I posted a lint in some thread a while back from a
doctor that stated what I've been saying for years, the guy is an
internist, internal medicine and he freely admits that the more they
learn the more they begin to realize they have no clue, even hospitals
are now adding disclaimers stating that medicine is far from an exact
science diagnosis is seldom right the first dozen times

sounds like you're seeing a drug company rep, a pill pusher that's
getting kickbacks for everything he prescribes, I've met one doctor so
far that when I've said 'no drugs' he actually listened and didnt ask if
I was an addict, he and I talked for about an hour, of course he was
unable to give me a diagnosis even with all the crap I brought in with
me, x-rays, EKG, complete blood panel, 1 ER visit on one day and the doc
on the next and still nothing... at least he was willing to run the few
tests I requested that eliminated a probable, the ER doc did what he
wanted and refused to listen to me, hooked me up to check my heart when
the issue is with my gut, the x-ray wasnt needed because I havent been
swallowing coins

the ER doctard was quick to hand me a pill and say 'this will help', I said "how do you know, you havent even identified what's wrong with me"

A friend of mines dad had a heart attack and required bypass surgery to save his life.  I'm pretty sure that the doctor knew what he was doing, rather than randomly cutting open his chest, grabbing his beating heart and "fussing around".

Another family friend of mine was recently diagnosed with an agressive, rare, skin cancer.  He saw a specialist that performed surgery and removed it.  He will now ive, rather than die within a year.  Again, I'd say the physician exercised sound judgement and knew what he was doing.

The process of diagnosing a health condition is based on sound, rational, judgement.  For the millions saved by physician's through routine care, sometimes mistakes are made, and conditions are "missed".

I don't think it means modern medicine is "quackery".

surgery has been developed through trial and error, some diagnosis' are
pretty simple but the vast majority of people are misdiagnosed
initially, my ex wife for instance went to the ER stating that she
believed she had pneumonia, the docs examined, x-rayed and tested her
for numerous things, handed her a scrip for some shit and sent her home
saying it was nothing serious, 2 days later she was admitted after
having nearly died when her lungs filled with fluid, that visit had her
in the ICU for 2 weeks and another week in recovery

diagnosis is often guesswork based on some symptoms, as such most
initial diagnoses' are inaccurate, people arent suing because often
times they're unaware that the week they spent eating antibiotics isnt
what made them better but their own immune system finally fighting off
the illness

I saw a doctor 3 times over the same issue, all 3 times the diagnosis
was different, one was the ER visit I mentioned earlier, they claimed it
was nothing more than reflux, something I never suffered from in my life
the second was the doctor that ran additional tests and admitted he had
no clue, the 3rd was at my employers insistence and the doctor said it
was bronchitis... there's no sound and rational judgment with internal
medicine... just a bunch of guesswork

now what about the millions killed due to modern medicine through
neglect, misdiagnoses, improper care or what have you

there's 195,000 deaths due to medial errors each year

The real quacks are chiropractors, come on cure cancer by cracking your back?

chiropractors do have a function
curing cancer isn't one of them though

most back issues stem from muscle spasms
that put kinks in your spine
a chiropractor simply massages the spasm out
and re-aligns your spine

I have gotten 100X more relief for my back
at the hands of my chiropractor
than I have at the hands of any MD

MD's are basically puppets of the Pharmacy company
they aren't interested in curing you any more
just making you comfortable with your ailments

Cannabis was found to cure cancer YEARS ago but
the science was buried by the big pharm companies
