Is this a scam? I suck with money stuff

I am selling my guitar on craigslist for $200, and I get this email from some dude saying he is interested in it.

He says he is really busy and can't pick the guitar up himself, but is going to send me a check. Ah hell, here's the email he sent me about it:

I would only accept a postal money order, tell him.

Then, when you get it check for the shiny metallic strip.

That could be more difficult for him to forage.

Also, you could have the MO sent to another address, besides yours, if you're worried.

I would tell him you prefer to meet in person, and write down his license plate, if you're that tripped out.  Sometimes or manytimes, intuition is dead on.

DO NOT ACCEPT MONEY ORDERS! Only an idiot would accept a money order. It says not to on every page of craigslist.

Craigslist is cash only. People feed on dumbasses in America who will accept money orders and who don't even know what money orders are supposed to look like. Don't get scammed. Don't deal with this guy. Ignore it.

Were you born with a few missing chromosomes? This guy doesn't live in America, he lives in Nigeria, it's obvious from the pigdin Nigerian English he's speaking in. You can't meet him and write down his license plate - he doesn't have a car! He's in some fucking mud hut somewhere scamming americans out of mad cash!

People this stupid deserve to be scammed, seriously. You don't need "intuition" to know this is a scam - it's patently obvious.

Honestly, I've been using craigslist for over a year now, and no one has tried to pull any shit over my head. Everyone has been cool as hell.

Sorry I'm dumb with stuff, but I'm not going to NOT ask if this is legitimate. Cool, make fun of me or whatever you wanna do, but I've never encountered some one trying to scam me before. I usually don't meet people over the internet besides the typical 'I'll meet you here at this time, and I'll sell you a microphone'.

You're good dude. It is better to ask and find out then to not ask at all and get scammed. :thumbup:

Craig list is cash only. If you take anything other than cash you're setting yourself up to get scammed.

Well honestly it depends what section of craigslist. Selling shit locally is pretty straightforward but when you are dealing with long distance transactions the dynamics shift.
I don't think anyone is making fun of you, we're just saying to be aware dude.
There are tons of scammers on craigslist, that will try to pull a fast one on you if you aren't paying attention.
I've been using it for a good 5-6 years now and while I've found some amazing deals and things through it, there were a lot of scammers I had to avoid in the process.

How is this a scam.

The guy is sending Drew a check for the guitar + $50 to take the add down

He isn't asking for any bank account numbers
he isn't trying to offer him anything but payment for the guitar

I just don't see how this is a scam.

How else should one go about trying to make arrangements for payment?

The whole point of craiglist is for locals to meet up and trade (for cash.. anything else is basically a scam)

If the dude is too busy to buy a guitar, he probably doesn't have enough time to play it. :thumbup:
