Can you accept the possibility?

What if it turns out to be true that nothing really is important outside of what we create as personal meaning. What if we are born then doomed to die and become nothing but particles of senseless energy never remembered or important. What if the universe has always been and has no designer and no goals.

Would that be OK with you and if not, why not.

I may give my answer later. :laugh:

I already agree with everything except for the Universe having always been.  Doesn't particularly excite or depress me.

Was raised in a non-religious household and I became a nihilist at a very early age once I figured out that most philosophies that tried to ascribe meaning to the Universe were full of bullshit.

The realization of my own mortality only offers more impetus to enjoy the time I have left IMO.

OK then I'm willing to wager that all or most of the true believers will avoid this thread like the  plague. Not because they believe otherwise but because they are terrified of the possibility that this could be true. They have to be closed minded on the subject as they have the most anxiety in this area.

If that's what life is, then I like it.  There are patterns apparent throughout all this senseless energy, and so far they are making some pretty cool stuff.  If people want to call those patterns God I don't have a problem with that.

Not sure what you mean by 'turns out.'  Is there supposed to be some big day when the nature of the universe is made clear, and some people will get to say "Hey I was totally right" and some other people shit themselves with disappointment?  I figure everyone will die without any certainty about it, so we should all believe whatever sits best with us so we can enjoy the ride.
