But not to your benefit, right?

Whatever benefits one may not necessarily benefit another, to claim otherwise would be wrong.

It's one thing to simply enjoy a style of life that one enjoys, but it's another thing altogether to refer to another person's choice as "wrong" or to rationalize their behavior as being pathological or resulting from some sort of inadequacy or failing so as to create a sense of superiority or separation as yet another projection of a personal fear or control issue.

It would benefit me also. Whatever benefits the society also benefits me, and if I was a malevolent creature only spreading malevolence to my sorroudings, my death would also be my own benefit.

Since you are an individual and not society, thinking in such a perspective is all you'll ever be able to do.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that I am an individual, and not society. Certainly the data imprinted in my neural net comes from society, and if I identify with this data as being "me", then I am society.

So if you die, society dies, too?

If the entire knowledge-base of our society only existed in my neural net, then society would die with me. Fortunately the knowledge-base of our society is also stored in other neural nets, books, and harddrives.

Well, duh! The fact remains that you are an individual, and to assert that you are a colony of individuals (i.e.- a society) would be ridiculous.

To assert that the protocol you are using to generate thoughts in your mind is your own would be ridiculous, when you have assimilated every word you know from society. Rather it is society that is thinking through your neural net.

Yep.  It's absolutely illogical to argue that whatever benefits society necessarily benefits the individual.

Illogical? According to what axioms? I rather think it is related to how large your perspective is, and the more data you have assimilated from society, the larger your perspective is. It is a huge difference between a neural net that has only assimilated 1 gigabyte of data from society, and a neural net that has assimilated 1 terabyte of data from society. I don't know exactly how much data you must have assimilated from society in order to identify with it, but I think it is a rather large amount of data.

I don't care how much data you've assimilated from society.  The fact remains that you are an individual with your own individual pains and pleasures, and whatever benefits the majority of individuals (namely, society) will not necessarily benefit you.

I think it is highly relevant, because the more data your neural net has assimilated from society, the more society dominates you compared to your genes and instincts.

Well then, for the sake of argument, say I was born in the wild and have never come in contact with any societies; would that, in your opinion, make me an individual?
