re-using jars
    #1046261 -

There are some jars that have uncolonized substrate in them. The little guy was kind enough to send a new syringe. They are the most helpful company I have ever worked with. Just wondering what is the best way to re-use these jars, or is that a bad idea asking for contams. I want to empty them and start with a new substrate. What's the best way to clean?

one quick thought. After the jars are bleached should they be rinsed or air dry? If rinsed, so they need to be rinsed with boiled water?

Wash real good with antibac soap , put in dishwasher just to be extra safe . The next time you use them they get sterilized again in the pc with substrate . Wash lids and dry by hand to slow rusting , when they get rusty , replace them . The jars should last a lifetime .

I don't have a dishwasher. I'm going to go with either bleach or anti-bac soap. Whichever is cheaper.

Then use as hot as you can take it water from the tap . Just like washing dishes so you can eat on them again .

I vote for bleach-it's a heavy duty disinfectant. A $1 bottle of bleach is cheap insurance.

You deffinatelly need to first wash the jars with dishwashing liquid.
Let them soak for a few minutes.
Then fill a sink of water and 10% bleach solution and allow your jars to sit in that for 20 minutes to make sure they are sterile.
Rinse off WELL and allow to dry.

nothing more then rinsing the actual dirt off is needed. I use a little bit of dishwash liquid on a paper towel to get the substrate and left over myc. off the sides, then just rinse. dry with paper towel, and if the jar was contaminated i spray a little alcohol in there. Refill with new substrate and PC. Voila
