If it is impossible for us to find proof to something, should it still be beleived in? And I'm not talking about the existence of God - I'm talking about the existence of consciousness.

Are you conscious? Only you know. If I ask you, and you tell me you are, how can I know that your answer was not just a mechanical, programmed, automatic one?

If I did not trust in the integrity of the people around me, I'd probably kill myself. How much fun would it be to beleive that the only conscious being in the universe is yourself?

What happens when somebody beleives that the world they live in was only created for them, and that every single person is an object that is only meant to have an impact on their lives?

We beleive that others are conscious because we want them to be. We don't want to be alone. But, if we face the truth, they have as much chances to be conscious as they have to be dull and lifeless. We have proof for neither option.

Feel free to post your thoughts, comments, or flames... I'm curious (as always :wink: )!

to state that others are an elaborate construction of your consciousness would mean that there has to be another entity of some kind creating these otherly experiences and impacting their causation upon you creating effects.... as rationally, you would not be responsible for any number of these novel circumstances, as they always seem to follow strict rules that you are unable to change from situation to circumstance ie: sky is blue, grass is green...
in short
if these other beings were figments of your imagination, your should occassionally be able to play around with them right? ie: give kate larger breasts, engineer the sudden death of her boyfriend....
right

so if there is another entity other than yourself creating these beings for you to interact with, you yourself must have been created by a similar (if not the same) entity... and in a seemingly uncanny fashion, you and your other human companions all seem to have the same basic, desires, composition, dreams, appearance, dna... etc...
and taking the overall simplistic nature of our environment into account, dont you think it would be a wee bit extravagant to have one entity to create you, and another system to create everything else in the world, just for you to play with and fret over, and then just die after an insignificant period?
are you some elaborate science experiment of the gods?

The soul is like a drop of water- You fall from the sky and then evaporate and rejoin the larger mass. This process loops and is natural and systematic, like science.
