I'd have to agree.
I've always been upper middle class, with my father making a decent six fig salary. I grew up in a nice, white neighborhood (not a planned community, all the houses here are solid brick houses built in the 50s-70s), always went to private schools. I can't stand being around lower class citizens. Although I'm getting a very useful degree at a good university, I'm always afraid that I'm somehow going to end up like them. Poor, in a negro-ridden neighborhood, surrounded by people who drink a six pack for breakfast, have 7 kids, and use food stamps.
Hell, I've never even been on a public bus. I even remember the first time I met a black person. I had seen them walking around town when I was riding in the car with my parents, or I'd see them at the mall, etc. But the first time I ever talked to one was when I was nine. Then, I didn't talk to another until I was 14.
I have a strange fear of lower income people. They just seem to breed so quickly, and ignorance nowadays seems to be a fad. Its cool to speak with poor grammar and to not study or try in school. To blame everyone else for your problems, society, the government, the wealthy, whoever or whatever is handy. It seems to me that the lower class and its ways are spreading like some type of infestation, or disease, and it freaks me out.
