2nd Attempt Growing Shrooms Not Going So Well.....

Alright, the first time I grew shrooms, it was great. I got great flushes and everything was good. This time, I'm getting hardly any shrooms and they are very small. I've been comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences between the two times but I can't seem to figure it out. So maybe if anyone out there can shed some light on what may have gone wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. I know it might be a combination of things or it may even be too hard to tell, but if anyone could easily point out what they think it is, it would be great. OK, here are the factors:

1st Time

1. Shrooms grown in Spring, but indoors (AC on 73-79 deg)
2. 1 syringe from Sporechicks, 1 from homeade syringe.
3. Lots of big shrooms.

2nd Time

1. Shrooms grown indoors beginning around winter,
however the temperature fluctuated between 65-79
frequently during fruiting.
2. Both syringes homeade from different strains.
3. Few and small shrooms.

Both times the shrooms got enough fannings and light.
Both times I used verm/BRF. I actually used the same BRF
from the first time (I had left over) mixed with new BRF.
The BRF seemed fine, however if it was just sitting in my
cupboard for 3 or 4 months, would this have any effect??

Everything else was the same as the first time except the
second time I filled the substrate closer to the top of the
jars, with less room for plain verm on top. I think this resulted
in some mycelium growing through my filters on top. I also
think this resulted in half my jars getting contaminated (it
definitely looked like gray mold or something). I can't really
think of any other reason why these shrooms just aren't
growing. It's frustrating.

The mycelium grew like crazy, so it seems the BRF had
plenty of good nutrients in it. The only other thing I can think
of is the temperature fluctuation. It fluctuated a lot.

Also, I definitely put more water than I should have in the
bottom of the terrarium. However, the cakes were sitting
on the jar lids and it the cakes were not getting wet at all.

If anyone could share their thoughts, that would be great.

be checking this thread often. Thanks!

Both of the strains I used the second time were homeade syringes I made. One Ecuador and the other Gulf Coast. The Ecuador was used on my first attempt, which was successful.

So nothing stands out to anyone? I guess I will just have to try and do everything the exact same way as the first time.
