Hero complex
    #10143368 -

We can prefect our being and become one with total love and peace. We will leave behind all negative animal traits and know the perfect mind of universal love.

This is the Hero complex and it is based in fear.

Discuss.

All of the Superman movies really sucked as did some of the Batman franchise.

How do you feel what you mention is based necessarily in fear? :strokebeard:

Batman Begins is really cool.

Fear of our animal nature with it's dark side and fear of our mortality and decay and lack of personal specialness.

we made 'animal nature' up of our own observations

connection with 'nature' is more intuitive than it is relational

which, given the right motivation, i think can result in "better people"

of course perfection is a concept too

Do you think in a very similar way that all human behavior and ideals are based in fear, then?

Hmmm, please tell us more...

Did you invent "the hero complex" yourself? If not, where or from whom did you pick this up from?

What are the premises for this perspective?

Who is the "we" you speak of?

Does a person always have to perfect their being before becoming one with total love and peace?

How does leaving behind "negative animal traits" perfect one's being? And why does it get one closer to knowing "universal love"? Does "universal" imply all inclusive or not?

What are the "negative animal traits" you speak of and what animal traits would be left behind?

How do people know what a "negative animal trait" is? Is this process idiosyncratic or is it the same for everyone?

Is "the hero complex" only based in fear?

Does "the hero complex" ever change according to culture/time/environment?

I see no point in that. and it sounds a bit too medicated for my taste.
we are all (more or less) driven by emotions, and fear, as well all other emotions,
play important role in our lives.
hell, if i have no fear for my life I would be long dead from some crazy stunt
i would perform for no other reason but for kicks.

negative trait is relative term. whats negative trait?
anger?
anger is good. sometimes.
sometimes not.

same is with love.
fear.

...and loathing : )

and why animal?
I'm animal. i eat, shit, sleep, breed just like any other mammal.

and whats universal love?
something like 2 pills of E?

Well, it seems to me that this "hero complex" you are presenting is not negative, but favorable.  Sounds like a great goal, and I think we can achieve it should we realize the truth.  I've grown tired of this separation; love, peace, and unity needs to balance out our recent past of bloodshed and "I, me, mine" behavior.

So what if this "hero complex" is based in fear?  Fear is a helluva good motivator.

did you mean "perfect" ?

there are no negative or positive traits, there's just our perception of them and how we make use of them etc.

people trying to transcend something like this are probably uncomfortable with the idea of them not having any control and that they have so much animalistic traits in them. it gives them existential fear and puts them into the position of a victim, whereas some people try to be heroes (escape from humanistic woes of teh world).

I don't know about all, but death anxiety seems to be the fuel behind so much of what we do in the world.
