What is the deal with being a proud fisherman? Hey, I out-thunk a primitive creature with a brain the size of a pea! Aren't I special?

That is almost as ego-satisfying as hiding in a blind and shooting an unsuspecting and 'dangerous' deer. Talk about your warrior spirit...

I dunno what's satisfying about the actual act of trying to catch fish (except the anticipation of food maybe), but I imagine alot of people do it mostly as a retreat from the everyday hurries and pressures of life.  It's pretty symbolic and it calms the body mind and spirit to sit in the middle of an incredibly responsive and sensitive system and to blend in.

Because it's sport. When you accomplish something or achieve a goal
(especially for your sport), it brings satisfaction.

Fishing puts you in the present.
Reeling in that big catch, fighting it, feeling your muscles strain, it is a flow state.
Of course, when you realize that you can live in the present all the time, inflicting pain on other lifeforms (catch-and-release sport-fishing) seems ridiculous.
If you're fishing for dinner, then you are not causing unnecessary pain.
As long as your intent is good, no harm done.
If your intent is to outwit small-brained creatures, shame on you.
If your intent is to use the energy from the fish for hard work, compassionate action, and love, then the fish has died for a purpose.

Let's say Ice weighs 180 pounds and the trout weighs 3 pounds, even at his advanced age, I doubt there is any muscle strain or fight.
