Buddha's Fire Sermon

I submitted a short 5 page essay to the Truth Contest about the Four Noble Truths in relation to the Fire Sermon.  As far as religion, I felt the current entries focused too much on Christianity, and an eastern ingredient was needed.  This is a first draft, and I will likely be making revisions over the coming weeks, but I'd like to direct your attention to the entry to receive some feedback.

A nice read, i enjoyed it passing :wink:

I don't think too much importance should be given to the eight fold path, apart from right view, i see right view as the only teaching that is really necessary, as when people come to a Buddha they come to see the truth, for people not ready to hear the truth he taught how to purify the mind through a righteous way of living.

The teachings of right speech, right livelihood, right conduct, right effort etc in my opinion are for seekers of truth that are not yet ripe for right view, as when you have right view, everything else falls into place...

I feel Buddhas highest teaching was that of Shunyata, followed by Anatta, Anicca & Dukkha

I enjoyed it as it talks about how to realize the truth, to me there is nothing as important as that

Yes, freedom of the mind from illusion is taught through a righteous way of living.  This peace of mind, along with associating yourself with other minds which will not impede your progress, are necessary to make progress along the path.

Some great input my friend.  I agree with you, and I was presenting the path as virtuous guidelines for seekers to follow.  Once one has right view, everything falls into place.  The other guidelines become natural, and following them allows the truth to manifest in the subconscious.  This can help one become a bodhisattva, as the ability to use skillful means to help others along their paths requires a great deal of practice regarding the Eightfold-path.
