Breathing exercises that have strange effect on me??
    #9940342 -

Hello all, recently i had been researching ways in which you can increase you lung capacity by performing certain lung "exercises".  Anyways, i settled on trying this technique called "packing" in which one breathes in as much air as the diaphram will permit into the lung and then use your mouth to swallow more air continuously until the lungs are at their full capacity (greater than diaphram can allow).

So the first time I tried this I had a very interesting effect.  At about the 10th swallow of air i paused to hold my breath. my eyes began to almost black out but very slowly.  Before I completely blacked out I exhaled and was immediatly very high, almost very similar to the effects of nitrous in a way. Only lasts maybe 20 seconds and leaves you feeling completely tranquil and calm.

I want to know if this works for anyone else?  I have repeated it numerous times with the same effect.  If you are completely stoned while you do it, the effects are very amazing.  I have experience true visual distortion and auditory hallucinations from this.

My question is: what is causing this?  I have tried to explain it to friends and even made them try but none of them seem to get the same effects i do from this exercise.  I know a lot of you will say oxygen deprivation and im killing brain cells but just holding my breath without the method described above does not produce this drastic an effect.  Could it be oxygen deprivation coupled with the release of an excess of oxygen into my bloodstream?  strange

Try this and let me know how it effects you. (make sure you are sitting down):
1) Slow down breathing to constant, normal rate
2) Take deepest possible breath that diaphram will allow lungs to take, and hold
3) Open mouth to let air in and "swallow" air into lungs repeatedly until you cannot possibly take another
4) Hold for 5 seconds, or just long enough to where you dont pass out
5) exhale
6) wow! (or at least for me)

hope this works for someone so i know im not a freak of nature

Yeah,  i know it sounds really stupid and all.  But honestly, it has very strange yet comfortable effects and i have actually noticed that doing this corrects my heart rate to a normal beating pattern.  (i have an irregular heart rate)

Have you tried to exhale all the air you've got and not breathe in till you start to black out? perhaps it's the same effect.

I mean you do experience a black out effect the way you're doing it...

This was also something i tested.  No, not only do i not get the same effect from exhaling all the air in my lungs but i am also holding my breath for less time when i do this packing exercise (maybe 20 sec as opposed to 40-60sec when simply exhaling).

Because breathing rapidly will cause a psychedelic experience. Look up holotropic breathwork.

this is very strange and it seems all too powerful.  it has a varying affect ony me each time.  sometimes i can tell when i have completely passed through into a higher level of pshycedelia when i perform the exercise to my fullest potential (also helps to be super stoned).  afterwords, i am left with a full body numbing feeling for 5 or 10 seconds and once i begin my normal breathing i get a very stress relieving and peacful affect
