Awwwight, who here digs some Norwegian black metal in the form of Immortal!?
    #9900210 -

I mean, seriously, this album is about near perfect, and that's saying a lot for flowingly melodic, rageful yet seductively beautiful metal.

Their post second wave stuff is instrumentally very cool but if I listen to them too much all the songs sound samey and soulless.

I like Taake more when it comes to post second wave norweigian stuff

they're going downhill though, their latest full length is too punky and lost the folky, foresty vibe of the debut

Thanks for the recommendation; I'm digging the Taake... seems to have much the same general ethos as Burzum.

I'll have to get that album.  I've only got Sons of Northern Darkness which I never really got into.

the sun no longer rises... old albums are more asskicking i think. but of course at the heart of winter is an icon, too.
at the heart of winter is a song which is suitable to listen before entering struggle hell yeah!

Few years back I used to listen to lots of Norwegian stuff but nowadays the BM from Norway isn't that good. A big part of the good stuff comes from Finland like Behexen, Horna, Enochian Crescent, Wormphlegm, Archgoat and so on. They say French do some great stuff today too though I haven't yet managed to get too familiar with it. But Deathspell Omega is great and BlackLodge, I seriously recommend BL if you like some crazy acid stuff. I need to try that sometime on shrooms. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=48092730

I've recently really gotten into the world of black metal the last half year.  I've been mainly listening to the big BM second wave bands; one band at a time for a certain period of time, until I really get a feel for their particular contribution to the BM sound.  Love Darkthrone and really enjoy the first 3 albums by Satyricon.  Going to have to give Immortal a full spin soon!..Actually been watching the epic musicvideo for 'Mighty Ravendark' haha...

Here's the video for the great song 'Mother North' by Satyricon.

Do you like new Darkthrone?  I haven't heard the very newest one 'Dark Thrones and Black Flags', but FOAD was sick!  FUCK YES Satyricon have a new album out, thank god for this thread, I wouldn't have checked otherwise.

I love Volcano, Rebel Extravaganza and Now, Diabolical.  I'm haven't finished listening to The Age of Nero yet.

I love the old ones as well, possibly more than the newer stuff but I reckon the new shit is sick.

Yeah, that album's only alright in comparison to the beauty of At the Heart of Winter.  Tyrants is still a kick-ass song, though.

I never managed to get into Darkthrone... but Burzum's Filosofem is one of my favorite albums, ever.
