At what point do/would you drop a friend?
    #9899082 -

I decided today I am dropping two friends of mine. First off let me say I don't care about the ego trip of having as many friends as possible, I take psychedelics and I think quality way over quantity. I would rather have 2 good friend's than 20 friends that are idiots or couldn't care less about me.

Basically I went snowboarding today and these two "friends of mine" left without calling me or anything. They knew I was coming up (they were w/their girlfriends though), but I was first boarding with a different, but basically they left without saying anything to me which just tells me that they aren't ttrue friends.  Leading up to this I had a few doubts also.

For example one of these friends only calls me when he wants to go snowboarding, yet he didn't end up boarding with me this time now that he didn't need the ride .  my other friend barely talked to me at his engagement a few weeks ago, and this is the worst part- a few days later I wrote on my facebook status something about sour diesels, than this dude comments in my status and writes "when are you going to rehab?", I deleted and ignored him but this showed me that he thinks of me as a drug addict because I smoke weed.  so now at this point I have decided I am never hanging out with these two dudes again, never gonna call them, but I will be nice to them when we have run in's.  Maybe I am over reacting, but these two guys have consistently proven to me that they are in no way real friends of mine, and with my philosophy I prefer to have less friends over more friends that are not true friends

I know that might be long and might not make a lot of sense, but I am very high and I had to let this all out.:bouncysmoke:

Would you ever drop a friend for reasons like this or different reasons?

i wouldnt let that shit get to me so much. if he said when are you going to rehab, i'd be like "dude when are you gonna grwo some balls" haha! or maybe "as soon as you get a car" if he didn't have one or something. you know, hes bustin your balls so bust them back!

but in all honesty, you say they aren't YOUR friends, but did you really like them in the first place?

I liked them because they are one of the few people I know in my town that are my age and we were in the same dorm for awhile, we've had a few good times, but when I analyze it, I think we were never really friends. All the little things add up and I have never gained anything from being their friends.  So I would say I never really liked them, I tried to because I am a nice person, but at this point I'm just like "fuck them". :bigblunt: no harm intended, I just like being truthful so I have decided we were never real friends.

The thing is, this kid has been kind of cynical towards me in recent events, maybe it is subconscious, but I don't let things like that slide. writing on my facebook page to go to rehab, where everyone reads that is pretty fucked up, and I don't want boost this kids ego by being his friend(The friends I stick with are very good people so I think my social status is decent, even though it doesn't mean anything to me).

That reminds me of this chick I used to hangout with. She never made an effort to talk to me or arrange a hangout or anything. And the last straw was when we were suppsoed to hangout at her house and her other friend is there and she talks to him the entire time, about things I don't know about so i can't contribute, and she doenst even make eye contact to me. so I said fuck her and havne't talked to her since. Some people just aren't worht your time.

word. now after a long day of snowboarding I come home and right when I am done cooking food ready to watch the two hour episode of 24 (not the best show, but still entertaining) and see that my older brother taped over the episode and not only did he tape it over, but it was to watch fucking sports center. some people really are selfish , I think I am done hanging out with my older brother too, haha. everyone is fucking me over lately. my new policy is if you fuck me over, we are friends no more. I still think it is healthy to be a good/nice person, just not slightky blind niceness. got to be fully aware of everyone, I am thankful I can judge people so deeply (partly due to psychedelic and marijuana use) I can usually tell who are the real deal!! seriously

I have to say I agree with #2.  I think dudes bust each others balls when they're comfortable with each other (regardless of whether they are 'friends' or not, comfort does not always imply friendship).  If you posted on your facebook you were smoking weed, then you aren't ashamed of it and could if you liked been confident enough to take his little ego-jab in good fun and give him one back.  You know how guys play hit eachother?  A lot of guys also play insult each other.

They may not be your 'friends', but it seems like you might be cutting them off to protect an ego that is a bit too sensitive.  When I was younger I was the same way.  These days another persons' ego-jabs have no effect on me, even in social situations (such as on your facebook page) because I will jab them back and I make sure my jabs are a bit harder.

Either way, its definitely your life and you should live it however makes you happiest.  Socialize with whoever you like, but taking the be aware that taking the rehab comment so personally make you look insecure about your weed smoking habit.

I drop all my friends eventually, there's only so far a male/male relationship can go. At least in my book.

Anon 6, I didn't take the comment so hard, I am not such an emotional person, but I really think he made that comment because he thinks that now he is engaged, he is the shit and doesn't need ot be nice to people. He acted like that towards everyone at his engagement. I know this may seem more ridiculous then it is, but I can not be friends with this dude anymore, I also never replied to his comment, I am not insecure, it's just a fucking lame comment to make, all my status said was something about sour diesels, not even a direct smoking weed comment.

Anon #7, I don't believe in violence and I never will, I would rather just never talk to this fuck again, and I will not dance his wedding, :heresjohnny:

Anon 8, I hear you strongly on that.  How far can a male/male friendship go already.  I gotta meet some females

it's called not being naive. chances are if youre a good person, assholes are going to gravitate toward you. Because people like to be treated well, but they do not like treating people well.

There is a difference between being a friend and being an acquaintance.

A friend is a person with whom one is on intimate terms and for whom one feels a warm affection.
A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts.

An acquaintance is a person you know.
You might hang out with this person and do things with, but there is no affection.

A strong friendship is like having a lover or a marriage, it takes work.
I have life long friends that I've been friends with for over 30 years.
I've had some ups and downs with some of them.
But we are always there for each other, and if there is a problem between us, we work it out.

I've lost a few friends over the years.
One stole from me.
One chased after my X girl friend, and wanted nothing more to do with me.
A few I've just lost contact with, it happens when you get married and have kids.

Family is whole another can of worms.
Just because someone is in your family doesn't make them a good friend.
I have a few friends that are closer to me than some of my family.
I have a few family members that I don't particularly like or trust.

I still have a friend from kindergarten and one from 7th grade, and one from 10th, and I'm in my 30's.

As you grow up, things change and it becomes impossible to stay friends with everyone. At first, I think we all tried to hold on to relationships that had obviously ran their courses, but now, when it starts fizzling, I just cut the cord.

It's not that I'm not friends with them, just not "bros" or whatever you want to call it.

I'll let someone wiser answer...

"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong." -Abraham Lincoln

Try not to take it so seriously. They are just your "backup" buddies when you don't have shit to do. That's what you are to them.
