I'm not necessarily against it in all cases, but I think it should be used extremely sparingly, if at all. I think the pertinent question is: Are they dangerous to society even behind bars? For example, gang leaders often run their organizations from prison, and are able to order hits on others on the outside. If you can convincingly tie such a murder to one of them, then perhaps the death penalty ought to be considered, but not without ruling out other options such as solitary confinement.

I'm not going to repost the Stats already posted, but answer me this...

How does Singapore have some of the highest death-penalty per capita, yet the lowest murder rate per capita of people in the world? Is it possible that violent crimes can happen in some places more than others? The death penalty is a cultural thing, and that culture is reflected in the crime of the regions.

My post asking if a painless death for a sadistic murder was mainly regarding closure. If someone close to me was murdered, i wouldn't want their killer to die easily. Their suffering wouldn't bring the victim back, but it would feel more like justice. The punishment has to fit the crime, and that goes both ways.
