brain activity after death
    #5591513 - 05/04/06 08:18 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

you know like in indiana jones, temple of doom, the cray guy rips out the dudes heart..

well my Q is, after the heart hs left the body, can the mind still live?

ive heard if someone rips your heart out you can see it stop beating.

true? or lies?

I know that the guy who invented the guileten ended up having it used on him. Then when he got his head chopped off he got his wife to time how long he could blink with his head chopped off I think it was like 13 secs.

On purpose he told his wife to time how long he could blink his eyes, which would indicate brain activity.

I think this is one of those questions you really can't answer with observations...

There really isn't anybody around to ask for first hand experiences.

Why not? Hook up an EEG to the person's head and measure the activity when the heart flat-lines. Pretty easy to do, really.

well you could do that, but I think you might have a little trouble finding a volunteer.

You could use someone sentenced to death, but I don't think you could find to many inmates keen on being guiliteened.

whether you get your head chopped off... or you get your heart ripped out, you are going to be in a severe state of shock...  so there's not too much you will be thinking about

I'll do it when I die. I'm probably going to be giving my body to science anyway.

Dr. Joseph-Ignace Guillotin (May 28, 1738 - March 26, 1814) did not invent the guillotine, but on October 10, 1789 proposed the use of a mechanical device to carry out death penalties in France. His name became an eponym, and eventually his relatives, after asking the government to stop using the name to describe the machine, changed their family name.

A popular urban legend was widely circulated that Dr. Guillotin was himself executed with the device. His actual cause of death was a shoulder carbuncle.

Anybody ever read about that one guy who did an experiment with a guillotined person? Basically, the guy picked up the head of a prisoner right after it was chopped off. He said the prisoners name and the eyes moved and focused. Weird shit.
