Hey, didnt you read my first reply?  Mistakes and innocent executions (that is the practical application of it) are the best reasons against the death penalty.

Murder is every bit as much a part of nature as birth, however my point was the aim of corporal punishment "is" the reduction of violent crime, and history has proven it to be an absolutely unsuccessful tactic.

I say keep 'em in solitary confinement their whole life. Not having human contact is probably the worst punishment out there that doesn't kill them. It is like banishment, their punishment is their loss of freedom which lasts for a long time

Hypothetical situation:
Lets say the courts rule all the current methods of execution amount to cruel and unusual punishment. A scientist discovers a way for prisoners to be executed where they die peacefully and painlessly. This method of execution is actually deemed one of the best ways to die, because it is more like falling asleep, and people only wish they could be killed that way, as opposed to dying of COPD, drowning, or being hit by a bus.

Now lets say a serial torturer, rapist, and murderer is on death row. He has killed many people and made them suffer immensely in their last moments here on earth. If he is sentenced to death, would it be fair for him to die peacefully and painlessly?

In most cases, I say that the death penalty shouldn't be used. Its probably much worst for one to spend the rest of their life locked up in a shit hole than to get put to death. What a sweet release that would be. Yeah it would cost money, but maybe if they didn't lock up thousands of people for stupid non violent shit, like drugs, then maybe there would be money to spare.

I think the death penalty should only be used for those who are...extremely dangerous that are capable of escaping and posing a serious threat to other people.

Solitary confinement would be worse than the death penalty.  I don't care about making them pay as much as taking them out of circulation as fast as possible.  Rapists and murderers, FTW.

I don't think it should be done, because in the past people have been wrongfully executed when stuff like DNA evidence had later proved them innocent.

I voted yes death penalty is good.

But now I would rather that they be sentenced to a lifetime of solitary confinement for, and only for, brutal murders. Not when someone sleeps with someones wife so he goes and shoots him the face. But in cases such as this, raped, bruises, possibility of torture...

Death would be an escape from a lifetime of solitary

Again.....the "intended" purpose behind corporal punishment, imprisonment, and the various "correctional" strategies is the "correction" of behavior, and the future prevention of "crime".

"Punishment" for no other sake than sadistic torment does not lead to the betterment of society, and it does not lead to a reduction in violent crimes. It's nothing more than a self perpetuating cycle of violence and destruction.

I fail to see how any execution (other than the electric chair) can be called sadistic torment.  Gas chamber, lethal injection, even the guy who recently got the firing squad, those are all quick and not at all sadistic.
In my opinion, electric chair is epic fail, and I'd get rid of it, but keep the other kinds.

The murder rate in non-Death Penalty states has remained consistently lower than the rate in States with the Death Penalty.




The "death penalty" does not accomplish anything other than gratifying the desire of the one person to inflict violence upon another.

The only thing that bothers me is that it's state sanctioned, and I'm unsure if I could pull the lever so to speak. I'm unsure if I could be for something I couldn't commit to. It's a complex issue.
