you could also get a tub with locking handles or close up some holes, just not so much as to loose too much fae. try the polyfill in a few.

86% is not perfect. Not even for cased substrates. Cased substrates are more tolerent to swings in humidity however best performace is still achieved at 95% +.

Mushrooms dont have a protective skin, they will exchange gases and moisture with the surrounding air. If rh is low, moisture will evaporate faster then the mycelial network can pump to the fruit.

really? i didn't realize bulk subs needed it that high as well. i did understand that occasional swing help evaporation for pinning but the casing layer was there for allowing lower humidity. i stand corrected, i guess i should keep mine higher anyway since i switched to uncased coir. i'd like to think i would have figured that out on my own duh. lol
