SSRIs and Shrooms.

So, I am about to take shrooms for the first time and I've been really anxious to do so. I've been taking Lamictal-mood stabilizer, and lexapro- an anti-depressant.

I know that these are both SSRIs and NOT MOI-inhibitors, which i hear can be lethal in conjunction with shrooms (i do my homework). My question is, has anyone here been on similar medications, and tripped on shrooms without any problems. Just curious since i also hear that these medications can also nullify the effects sometimes and how long should i limit taking them before doing shrooms.

I've been on those meds, but I've never eaten shrooms on them.

How long have you been taking them?

They made me worse off than I was before I went on them.  Some quack put me on them and kept switching me around to different things, but I was on the lamictal for months.  Those meds are absolute shit in my opinion.

Also... I've never heard about the MAOI thing.  I know some people, who, a couple months ago made a tea of shrooms and some type of natural MAOI... Syrian Rue I think it was.  They were fine.

SSRI's will greatly diminish LSD trips, and in my experience, only slightly diminish mushroom trips.

EDIT: And yes, taking MAOI's while taking shrooms will increase the effects and possibly be harmful...I'm not as informed on the effects of MAOI's as I am on the SSRI's, also I haven't experienced MAOI's and psychedelics like I have with SSRI's...

OH, i've been on them for over a year, at least. I mean, i know i would just not take them for 3 days or something before i trip, so i can actually feel the effects, but i'm really not listening to people saying b/c a have bi-polar or whatever that i shouldn't take shrooms. I believe if your in a nice environment, really sure about taking them, and look at it postively, there's just enough potential to have a good trip, so it shouldn't matter...or am i wrong about that. Again, never done shrooms before.

I gave my friend 3.5g of some good shrooms, he is bi-polar and had a great time with no after-effects that he has told me...

Then again, it isn't recommended, and it *might* be a bad idea.

To be honest, I don't know, but I know my friend did it and he seems about the same level of crazy:tongue:

i'm on both lexapro and lamictal as well.  lexapro is an ssri, lamictal isn't.  it does change the trip, it diminishes it quite a bit for sure.  i kind of forgot about the reaction between the two.  shouldn't do dxm i guess

I've been on Zoloft (SSRI), Paxil(SSRI), and Wlburtrin (atypical antidepressant, and tripping always worked out great for me. :smile:

I'd say it's a go, just make sure you start your dose low. I'd recommend 1.5-2.0 grams of cubensis for a first timer.

Edit: I just read that you have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In that case, the most important part is that you are not in a depressive stage. Dose when you are in a manic or "regular" mindset. Dose in a place you feel very comfortable and when you have no major mental hang ups. Most important for a first trip.: good mindset, good setting, good company (trip sitter).
