Horizon: Cannabis, the evil weed?

did anybody watch this? it was on BBC2 last night. you can see it online on iPlayer (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00hhmd1/Horizon_Cannabis_The_Evil_Weed/).

I thought it was pretty good, the all-day smoker made me regret smoking so much when i was a bit younger, he seemed pretty sad with his life. it's a bit dumbed down in places, but quite informative, and a good watch. plus check out the grow at around 50 minutes in :smile:

i saw it, it was pretty good, a balanced look at it, i was disappointed how it didnt touch on cannabis legality at all . . .

the end point was fairly true though, not his exact words but something like, "it cant kill you, its very unlikely to cause psychological problems but the main problem just is how it can turn people into lazy apathetic stoners"

and lets face it, the war on drugs is a sham, cannabis is clearly less harmful than alcohol and tobacco but it is NOT the benign harmless natural thing some people like to think . . . . it does turn some people into retard stoners . . but hey society does need stoners to work in videogame shops and supermarkets all their lives

I know literally hundreds of pot smokers and none of them fit the "lazy stoner" stereotype

yeah same with me niteowl, i know alot of people who dont fit that stereotype too, there are alot more cannabis smokers who dont fit the stoner stereotype than there are those who do,

i just think the "cannabis is harmless and natural man" people are almost as deluded as the "cannabis is the devil weed" side

it is a drug with its good and bad sides, just in the anti prohibition argument some people loose sight of that fact

. . . . . i just like to look at things from a balanced point of view, i still am in favour of legalisation and regulation though

I wonder if Phelps wanted to speak positively about ganja but got raped by the olympics.  I can't believe the state would consider throwing him in jail for hitting a bong, that is ridicolous.

I know some folks who truly do fit the bill as "lazy apathetic stoners," but they account for perhaps 10% (at most) of the total people I know who smoke pot on a daily basis. It's more of a judgment on certain people's character than on the drug itself.

They're not really going to throw Phelps in jail for hitting a bong, that sheriff just wanted to get into the news and talk shit about drugs.

People have totally the wrong reaction, they should be more like "hey this guy won a shitload of Olympic Gold medals AND he smokes weed, maybe weed isn't so bad after all".  But people would rather demonise a national treasure than raise their opinion of cannabis.  It's kerrrr-azzzy!

QFMFT    I think our nation is on the verge of legalization or at least decriminalization. weed seems to be all over the media these days

I believe that the last couple years started us down that road, and the somewhat unbiased, recent media attention is all-new for us these days. However, I personally believe that the falling economy from these past couple years is what actually helped bring many buried/taboo topics up front. At least there are bright sides to bad times.
