weed/shroom prices in Amsterdam??

I'm thinking of moving to Amsterdam for a few months. I'd appreciate anything you can tell me about the city and getting along there. are there jobs to be had there for Americans, how are the women in general, and oh yeah, how much for a half ounce of good bud? (converted into American dollars, if you know how). And i think I read somewhere that some of the smoking cafes sell mushrooms as well. Since I'll be there a good couple months before I can produce my own, I'm curious how good/expensive they are as well. Also interested in the drug laws of the country. Is pot legal everywhere in Amsterdam/Holland, or can you only smoke in the smoking/"cofee" houses? How about mushrooms? And finally, is growing pot and mushrooms legal there? If you could point me towards a link or resource, that would be helpful too. Thanks guys!

pot: 3-8$ a gram, depends on quality. I never buy weed that's over 6 because I just don't knotice the difference.
shrooms 12-15$ a portion (30 wet g)

I suggest you movw to a place close to Amsterdam but not Amsterdam itself. other placed are way nicer. You can smoke pot in coffeshops and everywhere outdoor. In theory it isn't even legal but they won't bust you. you can carry a max of 5g weed/hasj per person.
Growing shrooms is legal as far as I know. just drying them is illegal.

oh yeah, finding a place to live is very hard, especially in Amsterdam and other big cities.

In Holland we have 2 opium acts. The first is for Hard Drugs and the second for Soft Drugs. Only cannabis products fall under Soft Drugs(list 2). Buying, selling, possessing and growing of Soft and Hard drugs is illegal. Using Hard and Soft drugs is legal, even for minors! Using drugs isn't illegal so that people don't need to be scared to search for help(heroin, crack, cocaine addicts).

The dutch government tolerates small production(5plants pp), possession(5g) and selling(only coffeeshops/max 5g pp) of Soft Drugs(Cannabis products). Tolerating is "legal" but i'm not able to explain that part of the dutch law in English.

Smart Drugs/Eco Drugs (Mushrooms, Salvia, LSA seeds, San Pedro, Peyote and Ayahuasca) are totally legal! Psilocybin falls under the first opium act but judges in Holland say that natural plants containing Psilocybin aren't illegal because blablabla . They interpret the law in a good manner . But sometimes a judge has some american blood in his veins and says that it is illegal to grow enormous amounts of mushrooms. It's all about how judges interpret the dutch law. But nearly nobody is accusing mushroom growers/sellers etc so that's nice.

You can smoke weed in coffee shops, in you own home or outside. The police might tell you to smoke it somewhere else(if many other people are around) but you won't get arrested and they are very friendly. Just don't smoke weed in normal bars.

It will be very hard to find a house/room in Amsterdam and it's very expensive. I don't know if you are allowed to work in Holland as a tourist.

Yes, "legal". Amsterdam is just the capital of Holland==> same laws, more tourists.

i would love to go to amsterdam sometime...maybe next year if i can. I heard something about a law that they were trying to make it that tourists couldn't buy pot or anything. Is that true, or just a rumor?

A city in the south of Holland, Maastricht is doing some tests to reduce drug tourism(France, Belguim and Germany are bitching). This is just a stupid test and it won't happen in the rest of Holland. It's against the constitutional law...

first off, thank you stefan and annom for the info. I'm a bit bummed about the difficulty in finding housing and the high expense you talk about in Amsterdam. I'm a really frugal kid and don't need much besides rice and beans, pot, my guitar, and a pen so...what about youth hostels (I'm 23)? Aren't there a bunch I could stay in for relatively cheap? And how about getting a job? I'm a college graduate with an English major, so couldn't I teach English as a second language or something for decent cash? I mean, could it be done (for six months, say), or would it be too damn difficult and expensive? What are some places you recommend living, if not in the heart of Amsterdam? (I'm very into the outdoors, and am thrilled with the prospect of checking out the tulip nurseries etc. I like rock climbing and hiking and paddling and snowboarding, but mostly I like taking some pot or shrooms with me into the woods and peeking around, getting lost, and discovering neat little spots I can have to my self). I also have a bit of a thing for pussy, so if there is a city or county that breeds the ladies just right, feel free to mention that too. A youth hostel is around $20 per night. Sharing a room with some others. Utrecht(I live in Utrecht), Den Haag and Haarlem are nice cities with smartshops(mushrooms, salvia etc) and coffee shops(weed) and only 15-40min by train from Amsterdam. Still hard to find a room. At least for dutch students, I don't think it's easier for foreigners but I just don't know. Youth hostels won't be much cheaper and there aren't many youth hostels in Holland.

Job: I don't know if you are allowed to work in Holland. Teaching English would only be possible if you speak some basic Dutch and that's pretty hard to learn.

Holland is for a great part below sea level :smile:... The highest "mountain" is only 1000feet high. Most of the land is totally flat. No snow and no climbing in Holland.

Not much nature in Holland; one of the largest population densities of the world. There is not a single not human made forest in Holland. You will find some nature, but it's more like a big park if you compare it to America.

Utrecht and Amsterdam have many female students. As I already said: I love them :smile:

but there must be other good things about Amsterdam, like the museaums and the architecture and the history and the outdoor cafes and music and... help me out here. I also want to see how an interpretation of socialism has played out because the u.s. is kind of disgusting me right now. the rich get richer and there is such terrible excess and waste, and the television is the all powerful Leader next to our ass-clown president. I've always been way too liberal for my surroundings. how about street performers/musicians? how do they get treated in the city? it would only be a backup, but I'm still curious. how are americans/ and or tourists in general tolerated in the city? If you're down on Amsterdam, what are some places you might recommend both in and outside of Holland? And finally, I fell obliged to ask, is the pot outside of Amsterdam anywhere near as varied and high quality as it is in Amsterdam?

haha, the pot is everywhere good. It isn't tru that Amsterdam has better quality pot  than the rest of The Netherlands. Same quality is probably more expensive in Amsterdam than anywhere else because they know there that tourists are buying it anyway :wink:

so if it's hard to find a place in amsterdam and it's very expensive, what are some places in and around Holland you would recommend? (I'd like to settle down for a few months, so I'd need a place that won't grow boring, where jobs can be found (I don't care what I do per say, but I am a college graduate) and in a convenient location, so I could still enjoy the museums and cafes in Amsterdam when I need a change of scenery.

I've heard Haarlem is pretty nice, it's pretty close to Amsterdam too.
About the job and living thing you should try to look it up somewhere because I have no clue if you're allowed to move and work here.
