Fantasy - Move to Amsterdam, grow shrooms, sell spores

I sometimes get the opportunity to zone out at work and fantasize about things I would love to do...

One of those things would be to pack up all my shit, quit my job, and move over to Amsterdam. I've saved a lot of money and think I could make a go of it. Maybe I could grow mushrooms and work it out with a friend here in the states to distribute my spores. Make some money on the side doing that and then work some little shit job to pay the rent. Maybe even grow a couple of pot plants for fun.

I'd love to follow this dream one day. Just move over there for 5 or 6 years and live a relaxing life. I wonder what kind of job market there is over there? Cost of living? Could I actually do this?

I'm going to the Cannibis Cup next year with my best friend. Guess I'll get a better feel for this fantasy then.

Theres not a great market for spores in dam, but fully colonised
grow kits, that you just delid and fruit are hot sellers :cool:

I'm thinking more like shipping the spores to a friend here in the US and have him sell the spores through a web site. A la Hawk's Eye, etc.
The fully colonized kits are a neat idea. Those would be the biggest thing since sliced bread if they were legal here. Great novelty!
I see someone (MushMush) is selling one that is like that kind of kit. Just click a button and the spores drop into a jar of sterile substrate. Everything grows in vitro. I thought that was a great idea too.

that is my dream too, growing mush, sending the spores state side, selling the fresh mush in my own smart shops, along with a whole bunch of ethnobotanicals, and quality Ganja.

Nice guide, gives a little flavor for the area.

I am really looking forward to my trip there next year. I'll be doing a lot of research on the Netherlands and be paying special attention to job opportunities there.

The reason I've chosen Amsterdam for my fantasy is that I'm guessing most of the people speak English there, considering all of the American tourists that visit. Would an English speaking person with no experience with the Dutch language be accepted fairly easy as a resident? I wonder what the immagration laws are like there...

Almost all Dutch people can speak English to some extent. It's pretty hard for foreighners to learn our language because all the Dutch keep speaking English to them.
Amsterdam is quite nice but really crowded. It will be hard to get a (cheap) room there. Check out some of the other cities in Holland before you decide like Utrecht, Groningen or Den Haag.
I don't know about the immagration laws, but I think Americans can move here pretty easily.

What's the average per hour wage? Maybe for your job?

I'm not really familiar with avarage wages or apartment costs, I'm a lazy student, who has never had a real job. I make money through webdesign.  :smirk:

I have a bachelor of business administration from UofM and currently work for a non-profit as a program manager.  However, I'm pretty open minded when it comes to a job.  I'd work in a grocery store, factory, etc.  I'm not really interested in making a ton of money, just pay the bills and live happy.

The immigration laws are really strict right now, but they change all the time. Basically, you have to jump through hoop after hoop for the Immigration service, pay them at least 500$ and then wait for them to possibly reject you. Plus...it is not like some other countries in Europe (like France) where if you have enough money to support yourself then you are allowed to stay. In Holland you must have a compelling reason to stay, such as an employer is sponsoring you or you are in a relationship (but you don't have to be married, just "in love"). The easiest way to stay is to set up a legitimate business, but for this you must have a business plan, make a certain amount of money have have something like 8 or 10 thousand bucks. Good luck!

Man, I wish I could get some real information.

Some people tell me moving to Amsterdam is easy as 1-2-3, and some people tell me it's damn near impossible.

i suggest going to maastricht instead. it has all of the perks of amsterdam, except it's not as crowded and cleaner. would probably be expensive to get a smartshop going, but you'd make more money there in the long run.

Yeah for a smartshop Maastricht would be good. Because it's close to other countries. But there probably are a lot of smartshops there already.

Learyfan, maybe you should call your embassy or something for more info on moving to Holland.
