Wanting to move...

hey all.. I've mentioned it before... but... yea..
I want to move to NY, to be with someone... but I can't live with them yet.. they're in a 2yr lease in a part of town there's no way in fuck I could afford.
Right now I'm currently unemployed (working on it) and living in TX. The cost of living down here is cheap.. and I'm sorta struggling as it is I read that the cost of living in New York, New York is 507.4% higher than that of here. A salary of $23,000 in my current location has the same buying power that a salary of $139,691 has in New York, New York.
I *REALLY* have no clue what I'm doing as far as moving, I've never lived outside of my parents house before, and neither of them are in a position to help me financially.
I figure some people out there are used to moving around a lot... I need tips... pointers, help.. and advice.. Please don't flame me and tell me I'm stupid for wanting to do this, that's not helpful..

No formal schooling for any of it though, I look like shit on paper. (20yrs old, btw)

I would think you can almost always get a job as a waiter. Perhaps you could work your way into the kitchen. The top chefs make good coin.

When I was your age, the only way I could afford to live was to have roomates to share the cost of housing. You're moving to NYC to be with someone who already has an apt? What keeps you from moving in with this person? Is this a love interest or a friend? As for finding a job, if you are a resourceful person, you will be able to find gainful employment. It might not be something you like for now, but it'll pay the bills. good luck.

Well that's keepin me from moving in with them... is where they live, downtown manhattan... I couldn't afford to help pay the rent {:| here in texas, I'm used to $400 a month rent, no $3500. And yes. Love interest. Another reason I don't wanna move in with them, cause if something goes bad.... that'd be realllly fuckin awkward. I'm a fairly resourceful person, I know I can get jobs I'm just terrified about the whole ordeal. With due cause.
and yes, I'll keep you posted!
Thanks for caring guys, and the feedback!
