Childhood's End needs to be #1.

I've read exactly half of them. I was never into Fantasy... but good SciFi is great.

One MAJOR exception I have to that list is 'Dhalgren". I do believe it is the only SciFi book in my life that I never finished. It is pretentious, pointless, plotless, and booooooring as hell. I bought it when it was first released, back when I had very little money, on the basis of all the fawning reviews, and was I EVER pissed off. I had read a lot of Delaney's other works and liked them, so I figured I couldn't miss. What a mistake. I stuck with it as long as I could, hating to admit that I had got suckered out of my money, but somewhere around 2/3 of the way through I finally gave up on it. Man, after thirty years it STILL leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I was glad to see "The Stars My Destination" (possibly the best SciFi novel ever written) and "The Demolished Man" on the list, though they should have been higher.

"Snow Crash" is fantastic. Stephenson also wrote "The Diamond Age" and "Cryptonomicon", both of which are also excellent.

"Stranger in a Strange Land" is still one of my all-time favorites, but they should have included "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" as well. To the best of my knowledge, it is the first to deal with artificial intelligence.

"Ringworld" (and its sequels) is great. Larry Niven is da bomb.

Childhood's end is good, but putting LOTR as number 1 (or the hobbit, for that matter), is needed, considering that the other books might not be around if it were not for Tolkien.

Why, sirrah, why may a caudled fillhorse be deemed the brother to a hiren candle in the night? Withal, because a candle may be greased, yet a fillhorse be without a fat argier!
