What are your favorite books??

Any recommendations?
A few of mine are:
A Game of Thrones (by George R.R. Martin, spectacular)
The Mists of Avalon (Marion Zimmer Bradley, thought provoking)
The LAST part of Avaryan Rising (Judith Tarr, fun)
And a few others...yes, I'm a fantasy nut.
So what books do you like to read?

You know, I keep hearing such good things about The Amber series that I think I'm going to have to haul off and buy it one of these days. I used to read alot of Eddings a few years ago until I moved. Maybe its time to get back in the swing of things, with him!

All Ayn Rand books. Whoever wrote "Lonesome Dove" and all his books. The guy who wrote "Hotel New Hampshire" and all his books. The girl who wrote "Wheel of Fortune" and all her books. Of course, all Stephen King. Can't remember any authors names tonight.

There are just so many great books to mention, but I'm gonna offer up only one.
"Shella" by Andrew Vachss
This is a gritty and grim crime noir novel that just stays with you long after you've finished it. All of the Vachss books are excellent but this, to me, is his best. It is a disturbing read but it nails down a number of truths, very well written and entertaining, its hard to put down.

Well here are a few:
Interzone - William S Burroughs The Journey to the East - Herman Hesse Lonesome Traveller - Jack Kerouac Be Here Now - Ram Das (Richard Alpert) The Bhagavad Gita Junky - Burroughs Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises - Hemmingway Steppenwolf - Herman Hesse
ummm I can think of millions more, but you get the general idea.
I used to LOVE fantasy books, but haven't read any lately... The Wheel of Time series was a personal favorite (and the Xanth books by Piers Anthony when I was really young - they were so funny!)

I've read alot of sci-fi/fantasy stuff. Haven't finished the Amber series, but was a big fan of Wheel of Time.
some old favorites: Herman Hesse - most anything, particularly Demian, Siddartha, .. Glass Bead Game is a bit long Jack Kerouac - On The Road
I'm a big fan of Karl Popper's philosophy, particularly the Logic of Scientific Reasoning - a bit long and dry, but makes alot more sense than most philosophy
More recently, I've really been enjoying Tom Robbins.

Have you heard this story about Popper and Wittgenstein? As the story goes, Wittgenstein was having some lecture about linguistics and denounced some idea of Popper's. And Wittgenstein, being the arrogant bastard he was, said, "And how do you refute that?!"... Popper picked up a fire-poker (what the hell is the proper word for that? I dunno...) and hit Wittgenstein on the head, saying, "I refute it THUSLY!"

Well Fear and Loathing is a pretty cool book and so is Timothy Learys The Polloticks of Exstacy. I have found A Brave new World by Aldous Huxley to be a bit hard to get into but os far its not to bad I will probaly read Island next. Then there is Tikhal and Pikhal, yeah and DMT the spirit molecules a good read.
I am gona get some more leary soon though it amazing what the uni libary has compared to normal public one.

She's a great writer, very good at creating characters you can care about, and good ideas for plot-lines as well. I was gonna make some more recommendations when I got home, but then I remembered that most of my library got ruined when we re-roofed the garage a couple years ago.

Oh, yeah, did anyone mention Kurt Vonnegut? And the guy who wrote the Milagro Beanfield War

The only book that I read and actually enjoyed/thought about recently was Ishmael by Daniel Quinn.
I just picked up Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I'm really excited about reading this, I read the first chapter of it a long time ago and it was really interesting. I also got 1984 by George Orwell.
