Swimming Plugs?

Any of you lot use swimming plugs?

I try to swim everyday for up to an hour, i :heart: it so much

The only problem is i keep having trouble with swimmers ear

I've found the silicone putty plugs to be the best at keeping out water but after 2/3 uses they're finished & either break off in your ear or start letting in water

The ribbed rubber/plastic plug kind just seem to take more water into my ear



Im getting some silicone custom ones made next week but im still doubtful

Im also trying out these when they arrive:

The website looks pikey but im all for a natural solution to this problem,
the night before i found this website i was racking my brain for a natural solution


Any suggestions?

What do you mean by swimmer's ear?  I teach swimming lessons in the summers and am In the water for 2+ hours every day, never really noticed too many problems.  I do however have lots of wax in my ear which can cause problems.

As for ear plugs, I used to not be able to get water in my ear because I had a hole in my ear drum and tubes and what not.  I had a typanoplasty (replaced the typanic membrane with the lining from a ridge on my outer ear which is the same material; coolest surgery ever, I know) so I don't have that trouble but I remember always having to wear ear plugs.

What my mom did was always put in those silicone malleable ones, then put a swimming cap on over top, with both it usually kept all the water out, and then the ear plugs don't become useless after so few uses since they are more protected from the water as well.

Keep up the swimming!  I was swimming every day after work in the summer and I loved it too.  It so much easier when you work at a pool, I don't like my university pool that much so I don't swim much during the school year, but XC skiing is nice in the winter.

I love teaching swimming, giving kids lifelong safety and exercise skills Its a great summer job.

By swimmers ear i mean water getting in my ear, not coming out & causing a very painful infection, it can go form slightly irritating to extremely painful!

Im hoping the custom plugs im getting the impressions for tomorrow will seal out the water, they garuntee it...

Swimming is by far the best exercise, i feel its due to stretching before each resistance stroke, where as weights is just straight resistance, also in the water its almost impossible to push yourself too hard because the gravity of the water will always compensate to some extent, after i do weights i can get all testosterony & little things can piss me off, but after swimming im so relaxed & it seems to affect my muscles more, but im 6,4" & slim so i've got the right physique for being a good swimmer, i find it also helps with yoga & meditation where as weights can really tense me up, especially the day after...

Yeah weight training does tense me up a lot, and yoga, meditation or some nice relaxing cardio like swimming helps to relieve that.

Ear infections suck, so good lucky finding some nice ear plugs, ear problems are so annoying, as I dealt with a lot of this as a child.

What I do to get water out of my ears (works every time!) is..

1) Stand up
2) bend forward and look at your groin area (nod your head a couple of times if you need to)
3) tilt your head to left/right side
4) Stand up
5) repeat for other ear.

try that and see if it helps. You may have to do it a couple of times, but the water will just drip out.

I do this funny fast head whip to each side to get the water out of my ears.  Just move your head quickly to one side and then stop fast, might not be good if you have a weak neck or something, but it always works to get my water out.

these are fine solutions for people who have 'annoying' water trapped in their ear infections are something else

i went for my custom moulds & they said i gotta get more wax out before they will do the moulds  :psycrankey:

so now i gotta keep putting olive oil in my ear (im using hemp seed oil) to loosen up the wax, i think im gonna get a hopi candle treatment aswell to bring it all out, i need these ear plugs for my holiday!
