A company has bought over 120 laptops. Probably about 40-50 are either broken/unusable/thrown away, and for the most part they are all the same brand. Each laptop is labeled with a sticker with the laptop name on it, and they go in order 1-125+ based on the order they were setup and distributed. An excel spreadsheet is kept which keeps track of all these laptops. However, the company has a history of being a tad bit lazy of tracking the laptops, some have been lost, stolen, etc.
A nice new laptop comes in from someone who purchased it and had the company expense it. It's different than the other laptops but it is 1 of 2 that were purchased together. Well... lets just say it was taken, and the only thing that remains is the box, and the information in excel.
What's the best way to cover that up? Obviously throw out the box... but the excel sheet is tricky. The excel sheet goes in order... from 1 to whatever were up to. It's easy to just delete the row w/ that info, but then it jumps from say.... 115 to 117 - well.... what happened to 116? That looks odd. It's possible to change the info and say it's one of the models we have a lot of, forge some info and say it broke and was thrown out, but again there's a problem. This is 1 of 2 laptops that were purchased together that are different from all the other laptops. So, if someone were to look at this spreadsheet and see that there was only 1, but knew there were 2... they would know something was up. OR, do nothing, and if shit comes up just chalk it up to being lost and play stupid?
