Possible Copelandia cyanescens in North Queensland
    #9529883 -

Hi all,

After a morning searching in cow paddocks after rain, weve managed to gather a bag or so of possible panaeolus/copelandia cyanescens.

Habitat : All on cow dung, in wet grass
Spore print : jet black
Gill color : black - brown - grey
Cap : some grey, some more golden. Darker towards the centre. Grey/black shading to the edges
Bruising : various. Nothing extremely blue (which worries me). Lots of black bruising. A hint of blueish at the margins. No obvious cap bluing.

What do you think?

Why wouldn't they be?

Panaeolus species, quite evident blue bruising, cap broadly convex to bell-shaped

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Thanks guys. I'm used to hunting Psilocybe subaeruginosa in southern Australia, and they turn a clear, bright blue. In general, if you see a grey conical capped, tall mushroom growing out of a cow pat, is it probably going to be C. cyanescens? Are their any lookalikes?

Oh, and Awakened - you should have seen them in situ. They were gorgeous and clean before I picked them.

as long as it looks like that and bruises blue it's Panaeolus cyanescens. Look-alikes include inactive panaeolus species and possibly psathyrellas. If there's anything you're unsure about take a spore print, check for bruising, and post a picture here. No mushroom with a black spore print is toxic.

Can someone tell me if these are Copelandia cyanescens? Found in cow dung, in the Northern Territory towards Arnhem Land at the start of the wet season, had black gills, no apparent bruising and kind of a shiny convex cap. Help much appreciated, thanx in advance!

Compare this mushroom to Panaeolus antillarum.

Does it match?
